I don't know what to do. I live a pretty lonely life and its starting to intefere with my work. I am a 22 year old graduate student and all of my friends have moved away or moved on with life getting married. At night, I have to leave the radio or t.v. on because the more quiet the room is the more lonely I feel. I have hobbies, I work out at the gym and I go rock climbing, and even goto the bars every week or so, but have failed to meet anyone. Part of the trouble is I that I look several years younger than my age, so people that might usually have fun with me write me off as a young guy not worth their time. This goes for both guys and girls. I just don't know what to do anymore, if my loneliness stops me from getting my PhD I will feel like I have failed at life completely. ~Jon

Also, I understand about being alone..without a partner, although, mine was a conscious choice. I am alone, yet rarely lonely. There is an occasional time I get lonely except I think that is more when I am 'distancing' myself from my Self.
When you feel comfortable being with your Self and can enjoy your company, then that loneliness will fade, for the most part.
You seem that you are doing things to put yourself out there. Are you 'open' to meeting others? Now, before you say something to the effect of 'absolutely', let me tell you, I have thought I was and have had friends and Sister and Sis-in-laws tell me that I have had 'a look' that said, leave me alone! Could it be you are projecting that you are not open to receiving attention?
Just some thoughts for you to ponder.

I would like to think that I am open to meeting new people. But, how can I be sure? If there are steps I could take to make sure I appear more open I would not mind trying them.
I also am pretty happy with who I am as a person. I think I have some really great qualities, which makes the situation more discouraging. And I am not one of the more attractive guys out there, but I'm not that bad looking either.

well I would like to tell you that I have learned to be 'open' to receiving people into my life, yet, in This Moment (Now), I have not put effort into it. After I was told that, I just said, okay, no big deal.
So, I am going to offer to you this link instead. There is a whole thread which can give you ideas of what to do. Now, the original poster is a female yet I would believe it could help a male, as well.

Stop projecting the distraction, the more you do so, the more you project it to you. Concentrate on the task at hand and you will continue to get your work done. If you have difficulty understanding this...go to the Law of Attraction forum. That may even give you an idea of how to meet new people.

did it ever occur to you that if you had someone to make you feel complete that you might not be able to continue your education...???
i admire guys like you... that are goal oriented... i just never set my mind on anything... and i still don't know what i want to be when i grow up... lol... ;-)
but think about it... when you get that Phd... you will be quite the prize for any of the ladies... so... keep the old nose to the grind stone as the saying goes... in the end it will all work out wonderfully well... you are exactly where you are suppose to be at this moment... so... don't louse it up...

This is a reply to # 1,080,230I do have my hobby things as well, and know what you mean about being alone at night.....I fall alseep with a video usually.
BUT I have found one place where all the other lonely people go, and even though I go by myself, I never feel alone there......and thins is gonna sound funny, but it is Karaokee....lol. People there bond silently while toghether, weather silently on the sidelines, or up on stage. It truly is a place I never feel alone, when alone.....I go swimming and take my toddler to play groups etc and still feel as alone as can be at those activities, but at Karaoke, we are all there, mostly alone, but together. :)
