I read in "Nourishing Traditions" that overconsumption of trans fats can lead to an inability to utilize EFA's. I have consumed my share of trans fats (though not anymore), but I was wondering if I can perhaps still utilize EFA's, since I noticed that when I consumed flax seed oil regularly my skin looked a lot healthier. What are people's opinions on this? Obviously something's working, right?
My opinion only, would be that if you still consumed trans fats it would be a problem, but since you don't anymore AND it appears to be benefiting you, you would be OK and they are working. Go by how you feel and the effects it is having.
Do you know: when looking to see if products contain trans fats, will the oil always be listed as "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated," or is it sometimes listed as just plain oil with no indication that it is a trans fat?
