Hi my name is nikki and i live in australia i have had the mirena out for nearly 8 weeks now and still suffering from dizziness and joint pain and numbness not as bad though makes me wonder if it really is the mirena when do side effects go away dont think i can put up with it for much longer i just want it to all go away i have three young kids to look after it is so hard when you feel like this

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,078,523Nikki, I am here in the U.S. and feeling the same as you. I have joint pain off and on. It moves from joint to joint but always stays on the left side of my body. My arm and leg on the left side are weak and i feel this weird sensation in them. I am almost 5 weeks post removal and have only gotten worse. I am really starting to doubt its the IUd that is causing this. i dont understand how it could still be affecting me. I haven't had a period yet and it sounds like that helps things. Is your pain in one side of your body? Do it move around? Do you have weakness in your arms and legs? Have you had a period yet? I would love to hear back from you. I have 2 little boys and I agree its very hard to take care of them feeling this way. I feel scared all the time that something is really wrong with me.

meat 27 have you read other post about post removal? i have read alot of them and 1 said that the lack of the man made hormone affects the body as well. it all makes sense when u keep playing with your hormones. maybe your Depression is making u worst. its called regret. who knew that thoughts in your head could hurt you, lower your immune system, and affect your overall health. i never would have believed it if it didnt happen to me. after removal i really did get worst and is getten worst all the time because of depression.
anyway i just read about another birth control that is permanant and is just too much. doctors take springs and place them in the tubes that cause scarring and blocks off the eggs. its called ESSURE

This is a reply to # 1,078,644hi meat 27 yes i do feel weak especially down my left side i have had a period since i seem to get a period every two weeks or so not a proper period though and the symptoms seem to get worse just before they come im hoping when things get back to normal cycle maybe symptoms will go away so let me know how you go hope things get better for you to its so hard trying to look after kids when you feel like this

I just found this forum tonight and I am hoping that it is the answer to many problems that I've had lately. I seem to have many symptoms described by others here, but I am particularly interested in the weird sensations that you feel in your left arm and leg. I've had some weird sensations too and I'm not sure how to describe them. It is like a mild vibrating sensation or maybe I would describe it almost like a buzzing sensation. I'm not sure if that make sense. It sort of comes and goes. Mine are on my left side too. I've noticed a lot of people have reported problems on their left side. Weird.Advertisement

This is a reply to # 1,079,221Yes, that would describe the feeling I have. Somedays I have pain in the joints and muscles on my left side. Sometimes I just feel this weird sensation and sometimes it feels normal. Weird is the word. Its almost like a heightened awareness of your arm and leg. I think we are having the same thing. How long did you have your IUD? How long have you had it out? Do you have joint pain or muscle twitching? Do your every get numbness or a weird feeling in your tongue or throat? I feel all these things. I would be interested to know more about how you feel.

This is a reply to # 1,079,228I have had joint pain and muscle pain on both sides of my body. I have had twitching muscles too on both sides, but it is definetly worse on my left. My left eye has been twitching on and off for months now.
I have had my IUD in for a little over 4 months. I still have it in, but will be calling first thing in the morning to make an appt. to get it out. It usually takes a couple of weeks for me to get an appt. with my gyno though. I am so tempted to try and remove it myself, but I'm scared to.
I haven't really noticed any strange things going on with my tongue or throat.
I am have constant fatigue and dizziness though.
I often awake to tingling arms, like they have fallen asleep.
I am so tired of feeling like this and I am so tired of trying to find the cause of it. Sometimes I wish I could just go to sleep and not wake up again.

givinup, Hey its meat27 again. I will be glad when you get your IUD out. Dont let the doctor tell you your side effects go away immediately because they dont. I have only had mine out for 4 1/2 months and haven't really seen much improvement. I haven't had a period yet and from the sounds of it, that helps things out. I am giving it at least 3 months before I go back to a doctor. I am so thankful for this website cause without it i would be broke from medical tests and insane because I wouldn't know what was wrong with me. We just need to stick together and help each other get through this.

This is a reply to # 1,079,322My weird sensations are definitely subsiding. I have had the thing out for almost six weeks now. Right before my first period, all the side effects suddenly came back. But a few days later they disappeared. I guess it's all due to those hormones. I have had the tongue thing too. It was weird. Like a numb tip of my tongue. It was scary. Haven't had it since.

This is a reply to # 1,079,386Hi Meat27, Givinup & Aussiegirl80, I just wanted to let you know I had the same weird buzzing/electrical sensations & numbness in my left leg & arm and it does go away eventually after removal. All of that went away for me after the 2nd period. I know how scary it is, but there is hope. It will go away, just give it some time. I am now 12 weeks post-removal and I think (fingers crossed) I might be back to normal. I haven't had any anxiety in the past couple of weeks, so I'm hoping that is finally gone too. dutchmom, your anxiety has subsided? I am 6 weeks ost removasl and am on kolonopin for the anxiety, and I am still emotional at times, did you find that with each cycle the side effects did get better? I have felt better the last few days, but I have a hard time telling it it is "me" feeeling better or if it is the kolonopin, I have been on it for 5 days now, are you on any meds to held or were you on any?

This is a reply to # 1,079,492Hi Danielle, I never did go on any meds for the anxiety. I thought about it though. I did (and am still taking) a natural "mood enhancer" and liver detox. called Sam-e. I just take a 1/2 pill every day. I'm not sure if it has really done anything or not. I think the anxiety finally went with the 3rd period I had a couple of weeks ago. I haven't really had any anxiety since then. I wouldn't say the anxiety got better gradually. It just fluctuated with my cycle and got really bad during ovulation and right before my period. Have you noticed any kind of trend like that as you track it with your cycle?

This is a reply to # 1,079,505This week I am due for my 2nd period, I believe I ovulted this past week, I did not really notice much of a difference, would you say that you feel better overall, it has been 12 weeks right, I am almost at 6 weeks, do you feel normal, back to you, I forget how long did you have it in? Tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel, did you have anxiety bad, I am getting better, but when I first got it out it was hard to tell if it was anxiety or depression, did you experience this?

I've been feeling pretty normal for the past couple of weeks. I had the Mirena in for 7 months. I had anxiety the whole time with it. Right after I posted earlier, I did experience a little bit of anxiety that lasted for maybe an hour or so. I had some caffeine (2 cups of coffee) this morning and I'm wondering if that triggered it. I completely cut caffeine out shortly after removal. I've always been sensitive to caffeine, even before Mirena. It can trigger migraines for me too. So, I'll stay away from it again for awhile and see what happens. It's killing me though, not having my morning coffee to start the day. Doesn't everybody with small children need caffeine to keep them going? As far as Depression goes, I'm just not sure if I've ever suffered from it or not. I have days where I feel down and have lots of negative thoughts, but isn't that normal? Maybe not, I guess. I've never been so depressed that I couldn't get out of bed and be productive though. This is a reply to # 1,079,820I haven't felt depressed to the point of it being debilitating maybe the first week o fhaving it out, but it has subsided greatly, the anxiety was to the point that I was so scared and freaked out all of the time and felt crazy so I think that triggered some of my guilt and sadness due to the fact that I just couldn't function the way I wanted to with my kids and husband, for now I am doing better I guess that is all that matters, I have not had bad thoughts for a week now, I tried 4 different Depression meds and I never got past 2 days with any of them they made it soooo much worse, to the point I was admitted into the hospital, I would rather be on an anxiety med and deal with my days alot easier until my hormones are right again! Keep in touch!

Thanks for the support and the words of encouragement. These symptoms can be so scary. I have a brother and a cousin with MS so I always get a little nervous when anything of a neurological nature go wrong with me. It is nice to know that there are others out there that have had similar problems.
Has anyone heard of people having painful lymph node areas? That happens to me from time to time as well.
I am sitting here waiting for my doctors office to open so I can make an appt to have it removed. I feel like I've missed out on my baby's life due to all this. I have been too tired and ill to even want to care for him and I've been so impatient with my 2 year-old. I've been beating myself up about it and haven't been able to figure out why I feel this way. I'm glad to have found a possible reason for it all.
Thanks to everyone on this site. I did some research on the Mirena before I got it, but unfortunately I never came across any sites like this. Usually I am pretty thorough. I am so mad at myself for not looking more into it. Oh well, I guess I should just be grateful that I have found it now and can maybe get on to the path of healing.- Re: Mirena Hell meat27

This is a reply to # 1,079,523givinup, I just wanted to write in responce to your earlier question on lymph nodes. The side of my neck hurts really bad today for no reason. I looks at a picture of where your lymph nodes are and I think that is what hurts. I am not sure. Are you still having problems with this?? What part of your body has been affected?

I have had pain near my lymph nodes in my neck, but the one that has been most bothersome is my axillary lymph node (armpit), but just on my right side. To be honest, I don't really know if it is my lymph node that is hurting, or just a muscle or something else in that area. The pain in my armpit will come for a couple of days and they go for a couple days. Then, lately I've had pain in the area where the lymph nodes are in the groin area. This pain is new. I've not had this pain until just a few days ago. I just had my period...I think...I don't know if I really know when I'm having a period or when I'm just spotting since I've had this stupid Mirena. Anyway, the groin pain came with the start of the period, or spotting.Advertisement
