Magnesium oxide is the active ingredient in the product. With natural citric acid as the catalyst, that is why I use the lemon juice. The link I mention above really explains it well and they do not appear to be trying to sell any magnesium products. It's a matter of what works for you. So far,for me, the mag ox powder is working as well or better then the expensive product. It works in the cleaning capacity as well as to relieve constipation. You can take as much or as little as you need for what you are trying to acheive.
