No taking large amounts of a chelator like DMPS infrequently is *very* unsafe, due to the problem with redistribution as has been discussed in previous posts. I would suggest you read Amalgam Illness (Cutler's book which explains it more). Your doc needs to read it too!

Ditto the urine challenge. Don't do that either!

Some people find DMPS better than DMSA so it's great you have access to that. There are definite advantages eg it doesnt lead to an increase in gut bugs as with DMSA. I wish we could get it in the UK!

Yes you can take DMPS every 8 hrs but like DMSA and ALA best to start off on a lowish dose eg 12.5mg just to be on the safe side and then if you feel fine for a few rounds then increase. I would suggest doing say 3 days on for a round, then at least 3 days off and see how you go, or whatever length of round you were comfortable doing previously.

How did you feel on those doses of DMSA and ALA?

Has your doc got you on liver, adrenal and thyroid support? Rather I should have said you *need* to be on this support whether your doc advises it or not.

TK--- I suggest you start conservatively. See dosage at above link. I would use around the same dose that you have been for DMSA for now. Do several rounds at one dosage before considering increasing dosage.


I have heard 50mg every eight hours, but for how long?


TK--- 50mg is a lot to start with and not as safe as starting with a lower dosage and working up.


three days?


TK--- Do three or four days and see how you do.


and then what is the brake time.


TK--- The same amount of time.



Also should I start with a lower dose and work up?



TK--- I would recommend this. Many people have trouble with the larger dosages. It doesn't take that much longer to work up safely.


I have done 4 rounds of dmsa at 12.5mg and then went to 16mg with ALA, but he says DMPS has worked better for his patients and wants me to go for the DMPS.


TK--- I use oral DMPS and it has several advantages over DMSA.


He is open to any suggenstions and will work with me.


TK--- Follow the protocol for oral dosages and schedule above.



He wants to doa 250mg DMPS urine challange... is this ok?


TK--- No it is not. This will redistribute lots of Hg and make you worse. If you need to do a challenge test for his help do it corretly and safely - Do a 24hr urine collection on the third day of a normal round. Urine tests are not informative. Hair elements analysis looking for frank Hg and disrupted mineral balance is informative.
