I have been colecting this info for a friend who suffered a stroke.
Taking a really good (2000 mg daily either 2 hours before a meal or 3-4 hours after) SOD will help clean out the arteries. There is scientific proof that it works better than any statin drug. Preferred source Life Extension Foundation

.
A good Omega-3 (Salmon Oil, Cod Liver Oil, etc) will reduce arterial clotting over time. I would suggest (500-700 units EPA 2-3 times daily for a while). Again,

. Also DHA and Alpha-linolenic acid.
Also, augment with natural sources of Vitamin C (1 to 4 gm a day), D3, E (gamma tocopherol, not alpha that most places sell), and 200 IU or more of CoQ-10 daily, preferably ubiquinol rather than ubiquinone.

Calcium, magnesium, potassium should be taken depending on blood electrolyte levels. Also selenium.
Niacin is very important in improving the amount of good cholesterol in the body. The flush free (hexanicotinate) is not as good as the timed released version.
Alpha lipoic acid with B12 is beneficial in some cases.
Also consider green tea, bromelain, TMG (tri-methylglycine), policosanol, DHEA.
Melatonin nightly will help speed recovery significantly.
