We do see some of our friends on the forum with positive experiences with Mirena. One friend who stands out to me who recently posted a positive experience is Momoftwobabes. You can read her posts to get some positive feedback.

The reason you probably do not see more, is a lot of women find their way to the forum because they are suffering from the side effects that Mirena can cause. They come here searching for answers and looking for hope for their particular situation! The Mirena can and does work for some people but you should be cautioned that even if you are someone it is working for you need to know what to look for in case you would experience side effects. Like with any form of chemical BC there are serious risks associated with their use and the necessary research must be done so you are prepared for any side effects that can occur. Some women are not good candidates if they have certain conditions as chemical BC can make these conditions worse.

sorry i have nothing good to say, but my body has never liked birth control, it was just worse with the mirena iud. i guess it just depends on the person's body. my doctor said that my body rejects the hormone in birth control. if it's working out good for you then that's great. how long have you had it in?

I'm on my second month with Mirena, and so far so good. I just saw my ob/gyn yesterday, and it's perfectly positioned. The uterus is healing well, and the pain I was experiencing the first month is going away. I was on Depo Provera for 8 years prior to Mirena, which has the same hormone in a higher dosage. No complaints for Depo either. I stopped the Depo because of the length of time I was on it. It took about 9 months for my period to return after stopping the Depo.

My IUD was also inserted by a ob/gyn who was 57, and performed her first appendectomy at the age of 20. She was very experienced. Which is what I recommend first and foremost, an experienced doctor to put it in.

What I didn't like was the NuvaRing. That made my feel so weird and dizzy. It also caused irritation inside of me, and on him too (all that rubbing! ;)
