Hi. No, need sugar. Not always, but often. If I can catch the fall while it is still near 90 or so, I can do it with other carbs, but the quickness with which it can plunge means if I don't catch it until it is 70 or below, the only way to avoid passing out is with
Sugar - it is the only thing that gets into the system quick enough. :(
Type 1 is not necessarily from birth, in fact, from birth is very rare. Type 1 just means that the pancreas has supposedly become damaged somehow (virus is the leading contender with the medicos at the moment, combined with not being breast fed), destroying the beta cells that produce insulin. And, this "usually" happens in childhood or young adulthood. Type 2 means you do produce insulin, but cannot properly utilize it, usually due to a combination of lifestyle factors that have slugged up your system. Used to be solely older adults, but now kids are getting it at an alarming rate due to bad diet and no physical education in schools, etc.
The further on I go with this, the more I have become able to figure out my patterns of candida flares, and it is absolutely related now to my menstrual cycle. All those hormones bring on the candida flare. My doc started me a month ago on Indole-3 Carbinol, which is a substance in cruciferous veggies that is supposed to help flush out the excess estrogen, which is supposedly what causes the flare. But it takes a few months to work, so I am only seeing small benefits so far. My assistant at work has similar issues, and she was on it 3 months then saw a difference. I can tell it is helping tho. My periods are already less stressful - a good sign I think. Diet seems not to be involved in creating flares anymore (but used to be back when I was very sick), other than when I am already IN a flare, I need to be extra careful with what I eat. Today I am mid-cycle - feeling GREAT, no candida, ate tune on a regular roll yesterday, ate some corn chips today, feel fine and will until time of month creeps up again. At least there is something I can do about this by taking the indole 3 carbinol (and I think the cabbage-rich kraut helps a lot too).
People like you keep them on their toes! Me too. My doc could not figure out why I kept flaring for something like 3 years - completely baffled him. Then, one day, after keeping a diary, we figured it out. :) TG!!!!!!
