What is the best solution to do painting with iodine?

Iodine tends to be drying to the skin. The tincture form that contains alcohol is doubly drying. Lugols which is water based is probably the best. I mix some of my 2% Lugols in my diluted mag oil and spritz it on my face. It seems to seal in moisture. I just have to remember to rinse it off my lips because not only is mag oil bitter, the lugols/mag oil is very drying to my lips.
