The richest source of omega 3 Essental Fatty Acid (EFA)   by #56153   19 year 3 of 3 (100%)

Flaxseed (Linseed ) oil is the richest source of Omega 3 LNA, essential fatty acid.

LNA = Alpha Linolenic Acid (fatty acid), omega 3, essential nutrient
LA = Linoleic Acid (fatty acid), omega 6, essential nutrient
EFA=Essential Fatty Acid

Our body needs 2 times more Omega 6 LA then Omega 3 LNA.

LNA : LA imbalance in modern diet:

Ratio: Omega3 : Omega 6
  LNA : LA
Modern diet:  from

1

: 10

up to

1 : 50
Our needs: 1 : 2
Flaxseed oil 4 : 1
Udo's Choice 2 : 1

Flaxseed oil MUST BE Expeller pressed, non refined, fresh, kept in the freezer or refrigerator !

Cancer patients should consume every day small portion of flaxseed  or flaxseed oil.
If flaxseed oil is used in diet for too long time, without other oils, it may cause Omega6 deficiency symptoms ! In curing cancer, it is recommended to blend flax seed oil with cottage cheese, source of sulfur rich protein.

The Flaxseed (Linseed) oil diet was originally proposed by Dr. Johanna Budwig, a German biochemist and expert on fats and oils, in 1951.

Linoleic Acid (LA) Deficiency Symptoms:
  • eczema-like skin eruptions;
  • loss of hair;
  • liver degeneration;
  • behavioral disturbances;
  • kidney degenerations;
  • excessive water loss through the skin accompanied by thirst;
  • drying up of glands;
  • susceptibility to infections;
  • failure of wound healing;
  • sterility in males;
  • miscarriage in females;
  • arthritis-like conditions;
  • heart and circulatory problems ; and
  • growth retardation;

Prolonged absence of  LA  from diet is fatal. All of the deficiency symptoms (except death) can be reversed by adding LA back to the diet from which it was missing.

Alpha Linolenic Acid (LNA) Deficiency Symptoms:
  • growth retardation;
  • weakness;
  • impairment of vision and learning ability;
  • motor incoordination;
  • tingling sensations in arms and legs;
  • behavioral changes;

These symptoms can be reversed by adding LNA back to the diet from which it was missing. Other symptoms that can result from LNA (or w3) deficiency include :

  • high triglycerides;
  • high blood pressure;
  • sticky platelets;
  • tissue inflammation;
  • edema;
  • dry skin;
  • mental deterioration;
  • low metabolic rate;
  • some kinds of immune dysfunction;

EPA,DHA,ALA are all with 3 double chains on the third bonds and that is why they are all part of Omega3. ALA has 3 double chains. DHA and EPA have 6 and 5 double-chains respectively. Fish, squid, crab, shrimp and most of animals in the sea carry all 3 types of Omega-3 because they eat spirulina and other omega3-rich food sources.

Human body and other animals can transfer ALA into DHA and EPA. If you do not use this function for a long time, your transformation ability will deteriarate. Therefore, your system function that does the transformtion will be replaced by the implementing of DHA and EPA process. In health science, we call it "substitution" procedure, meaning, your function is substituted.

On the other hand, when you eat ALA along with enzyme-rich foods from veges, your body will work to transform ALA into DHA, EPA and PGE3 etc. This process is called "regeneration".

If you need DHA and EPA urgently and you have a very weak body system that may not perform above process taht changes ALA into EPA or DHA, you can try to take some fish oil or seal oil. However, fish may contain more toxins while seal oil has much higher natural omega-3 that natural fish (natural seal has about 20-30% Omega-3 and natual salmon has 3%).

when you take ALA, you can choose from a few sources. However, Flax may be most affordable and almost the highest in ALA (57-62% in Canada). Our research centre suggests that you emulsify the oil when taking. This means, you can mix them into potato salad, think soup, rice congee or in HPRCC, we mix with high fibre powder so the oils are well dispersed. After dispersing/emulfying, your can absorb 20-40 times more oil particles comparing with taking them directly.

Note that LA, a type of Omega6, is a totally different type of polyunsaturated fatty acids with 2 double chains. It is a source of body hormones and is a must to your body. Both LA and ALA are the only 2 essential oils. The rest of them are not essential. LA is the precursor of PGE1, progesterones, testosterones and estrogens. However, LA also produces PGE2 which is a chemical working as an alarm to your body. When the reaction is too high where you might have high PGE2, but lacking of PGE3, your immune cells may attck your own system. That is one of the reason of auto immune diseases. From our researches, the best balance is yet to be found. However, we have 4 different combinations of ALA/GLA/LA for different peoples' need. OA is not important from our research because it rarely provide PGE1, PGE2 or PGE3, nor sex hormones. For reducing bad cholesterol (LDL), ALA is the best source and much more effective that OA.

Omega 3 and Omega 6.   by shaneris   15 year 1 of 1 (100%)

A better ratio is 1:1

Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it!

Females may benefit by balancing the DHA, & EPA versions of Omega 3 in krill oil with ALA flaxseed oil Omega 3, or at least one heaped tablespoonful of ground flaxseed, daily. Vegetarians: Google: "Omega 3; algae; supplies"

Flax oil is not the answer   by #66379   18 year 2 of 7 (28%)

I know this is an old post,but you are mistaken about flax seed oil.

Flax seed oil does not contain omega -3 fatty acids. You are correct when you say it contains alpha linolenic acids.

these acids(linolenic acids) must be converted through an enzymatic process into Omega-3,the preferred EPa-DHa.

well a large part of the population lacks these enzymes for this conversion. And the elderly may lack them completely.

Flax is too high in 6. We get plenty of 6 in our diet. And wherever you got your info that we need 2 times more 6 than 3 is just srong. We neeed a litle 6 but we need more of the 3. 6 can promote inflammation,while 3 inhibits it..

Obviously a tablespoon a day of flax oil is not gonna do any harm. It just should not be your sole source of fatty acids.

why not just take fish oils where they are already Omega 3 Epa/Dha? there is no conversion needed. Plus they contain Vit A+D

Even Udo Erasmus the one who helped bring flax to the forefront of fatty acids has backed away from flax.

fish oils,fish oils,fish oils.

Omega-3 could be a main food source of the relief from Prader-Willi Syndrome. It is important to take the right oil for the relief from auto immune disorder.
