What Is the Connection Between Copper Overload and Adrenal Fatigue?
[Answer This Question] [Ask New Question]
AF and Copper Overload by SeattleTom 14 year 1 of 1 (100%)
If you have adrenal fatigue, then you probably have a little-known condition known as copper overload. The primary symptom of the latter condition is fatigue. By correcting copper overload, one can regain one's energy and vitality, and recover from adrenal fatigue more quickly.
Copper and zinc are antagonistic minerals, and if there's more copper in relation to zinc in the tissues than there should be, fatigue can result. Copper and zinc should be in a 1:8 ratio in favor of zinc. Zinc is needed for the production of adrenal cortical hormones, so if zinc levels are low or if copper levels are high, production of adrenal cortical hormones diminishes. The body loses zinc quickly under stress. Copper is a brain stimulant. The best way to determine one's ration of copper to zinc is to get a hair mineral test.
A copper level exceeding 2.5 mg per one hundred grams of hair is considered elevated. Probably the best way to evaluate true copper status is by looking not only at an individual's copper level but at his or her zinc-to-copper ratio. If copper and zinc are out of balance, the ability of the liver to eliminate toxins, including copper, can become diminished. Healthy adrenals send signals to the liver to detoxify and excrete excess copper.
Nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman ,recommends the following protocol for reducing copper:
zinc, 10-25 mg.
vitamin B-6, 50-200 mg.
manganese, 5-15 mg.
vitamin C, 500-3,000 mg.
When one's copper and zinc levels start to get back in balance, the body will start eliminating stored copper. This will result in copper dumps, which are a type of healing crisis. Copper Toxicity and Adrenal Fatigue (aka Adrenal Insufficiency) by Growing Gratitude 14 year 1 of 1 (100%)
There is a link between AF, candida and copper bio-unavailabilty. I am unclear at this moment what comes first. Perhaps adrenal crisis, IBS causing lowered friendly flora causing candida overgrowth. When the adrenals running on low, copper somehow gets bound up somewhere which makes it
unavailable to the body, which when healthy, uses copper as an antifungal.
You want to eliminate copper from your diet and remove this excess from your body. This means avoiding tea, chocolate, nuts and supplements with copper (hard for someone with fatigue as I can attest). This means using chelators like cilantro and selenium. Use zink for health with this issue as well.
