If you have concerns over the possibility that Iodine supplementation may cause complications then by all means be sure to proceed with the advice of a health care professional. And also be sure to stay connected with what you are feeling and experiencing with your body, as in--what your body communicates to you as you proceed forward.
Personally, I don’t like taking supplements at all. As an alternative, there are food choices one can make for oneself. Foods that will provide the needed amounts of whatever is needed for the body. And most certainly there are foods that I will absolutely stay away from.
All the information that is needed is here on this forum. As new information comes in, some of it is filed away for my own personal use. In this way it is a very alive forum. Enough people here are excited about reclaiming their health that has been lost at some time or other.
Ignorance is bliss.
The fear comes because you are now aware that the body may have a need for something that it may not have been getting previously. Before this, you were unaware of it, and without the concern for taking on such a responsibility.
Maybe another few questions will answer your question about supplementing for life:
Is the quality of life a concern to you? Or are you content on just a survival type of existence?
Does your body need food? Air? Water? Sunlight? Shelter? Are these things needed for the rest of you life? Are you addicted to these?
If you do not want to think about what your body-mind needs…if you do not want the responsibility of taking on such a care, then you can go back to sleep [if you are able] and do not think about it at all. Nobody, here, will say anything more about it. Nobody is forcing you to move one way or the other. It is entirely your choice in what attitude you choose to have.
The question is more about attitude, then. It is your choice. Whether you look at taking on such a responsibility as a burden, or, as a welcome change to your present life style. It is entiriely up to you

How to allay your fears about Iodine supplementation. by #179692 11 year 1 of 2 (50%)
I think that knowledge is the key to getting over your fears. We always fear what we don't know. Also, you could try just using small amounts of Nascent Iodine which you can buy over the web and work your way up. You don't have to go to large dosages right away, if that's what scares you.
Read a book by Dr. Brownstein on Iodine to understand the Science better. You can search youtube to watch his videos and learn more.
Join the Yahoo Iodine Group or the Facebook Iodine Group and listen to all the people learning and sharing their experiences. You'll feel much more comfortable when you have the advice and support of others going through the same process.
Also, here is a link to a video given by a doctor at a dental seminar a few years ago which explains a good deal about how iodine works and the research behind it, and how modern doctors are missing the research that is there.

Dr. Sherry Tenpenny outlines the many disorders that come about because of iodine deficiency IAOMT 2007 L.V. This is a must see, especially for women that have problems with their thyroid or their breasts.
