What is the difference between Lugol's Solution 5% and Lugol's Solution 2%?
[Answer This Question] [Ask New Question]
The difference between Lugol's Solution 5% and Lugol's Solution 2% by jcrows 17 year 10 of 10 (100%)
With respect to the Lugol's Solution 2%, in general, it is simply a dilute formula of Iodine and Potassium Iodide in water (2% Iodine, 4% Potassium Iodide and 94% Distilled Water).
One would just double (more or less) the use level to achieve the same dosage as the Lugol's Solution 5%. The formula ingredients are the same.
The Gerson therapy calls for the 2%. Lugol's Solution is actually in the 4.5-5.5% Iodine range.
The "5%" is just a settled denominator for describing what is generally considered "Strong Iodine" (water based).
There are some purists who believe that the 2% Lugol's is not really Lugol's Solution. It is my opinion that is not exactly correct.
Lugol's Solution contains Iodine, Potassium Iodide and Water. That is the basis.
The % of dilution is a secondary matter. It was Lugol himself who established
the ingredients. The % would establish the strength.
