If one wants empirical evidence just simply go to any Dianetics or Scientology Organization and they will show it to you. Even more you can see the proof that you are not a body by using very scientific tool, E-meter ! This book will help you to understand self and others and most importantly can be immediately applied to better one's conditions !!! Obviously those who form their opinions by following labels by some special interests have to make a heroic decision in their life- try to make your own mind , buy this this book, read it and use it immediately to improve self !!! 2 of 4 people found the following review helpful:
I have read both positive and negative reviews on here that seem to miss completely the point of the book: to help yourself get over a mental illness. Now, if you think you do not have a mental illness, do not read this book, but if you suffer from something like severe social anxiety disorder, this book may be able to help you significantly. Is there empirical evidence that Dianetics works? I do not know. What I do know is that the chapter on Emotion and the Dynamics unlocked something within me that has helped me get over a 10 year anxiety disorder born from one terribly traumatic experience, which is more than I can say for any therapy I've ever received or any amount of pills I've taken. What difference does it make if a book can help you become a better you? There is no empirical evidence that God exists, yet over 95% of the world's population believes in God and many people find salvation in The Bible, despite the fact that it contains several contradictions. Now, do not get me wrong. I am not comparing Dianetics to The Bible, I am simply saying that whatever works, works. You need not believe in the Dogma (like Scientology) for the book to help you. Dianetics has been very valuable to me. A person trained in the therapy described in the book helped me overcome the grief that I'd experienced at the sudden loss of a friend of mine. Think about it - who do you know that coud benefit from something like that? Who do you know that's stuck in grief after experiencing a loss? Something CAN be done about it, people don't have to live under the pain of a loss forever and ever. Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought LRH (L. Ron Hubbard) States early on in this book that whites are more progressive than blacks or asians because they crave more attention, whereas the "yellows and browns", as he calls them, feel they can get attention from rocks, trees, and walls etc... My jaw about hit the floor when I heard such a racial slur. He then explains how we are all Thetans who are immortal spiritual beings who have no mass, no energy, and don't occupy space or time. Well, I no quantum physics major, but I know if something does'nt have mass, energy, or exist in space-time, then it is only a figment of one's imagination. Scientology: A History of Man Ever had jaw pain or a tooth ache? Well it's probably because in a past life your were a clam having a bad day. Are you afraid of heights? Maybe a bird picked you up and droped you. And of course my favorite. Do you or someone you know (maybe a child) have an obsession with biting? It's may have to do with your paste life as a "piltdown man". You see the piltdown man had enormous teeth as was careless about what and whom he bit, sometimes even eating his wife. Of course the main problem with this story is that the "piltdown man" was a proven hoax. Since then the Church of Scientology has tried to cover this up by saying in latter writtings that this was a caveman similar to piltdown. Basing the existence of a being on a hoax, without evidence, is just bad science. Have You Lived This Life Before? This book deals mainly with people who remember past lives while going through a process known as "auditing". The 41 cases sound like dime store sci-fi novels. They are so bizare that I found myself sometimes laughing, and at other times shaking my head wondering how any intelligent person could take these stories as fact. In one case the subject recalls an incident that takes place 500 billion billion years ago. Fying saucers, 12 foot robots, and manta ray type aliens make this truly hard to believe; especially considering the universe is about 13.7 billion years old. Wonder what that volcano on the cover of Dianetics means? In the early commercials it was to represent the dynamic potential in every indiviual. However it also has a more secretive meaning that only those higher-up in The Church of Scientology are suppose to know about. The story starts with an galactic ruler named Xenu who brought billions of people to earth around 75 million years ago. This was done due to over population on other planets. The bodies were droped around volcanoes here on earth. Then hydrogen bombs were setoff. However, before this was done the people were given "implants", false memories, so that they wouldn't find there way back to there home worlds. A thetan is this spiritual self that survived. More information on Xenu and this space opera can be found at wikipedia.org. So what about that cross we see in all their book? Isn't this to show their Christian side. LRH wasn't a christian. He was however facinated with the occult. Upon closer inspection you will notice a x-like design in the center of their cross. This isn't some starburst design, it is what's known as the crossed-out cross. Alchohol and drug addiction are just some touchy subjects about LRH that the CoS doesn't want you to know about. But these are topics which I don't wish to go into since it is second hand information. It is obvious to me after some intense research that the CoS is a dangerous cult bent on schaming money from the ignorant and gullible. Read these three books and make up your own mind. Word of advice though; go to the libary or amazon.com in the new and used section to save money, and don't put it into the pockets of these "snake oil salesmen".
