GMO Debate December 3, 2014 #GMO Debate

SUMMARY:

A very important #gmodebate raising numbers of the pro and con issues about GMOs is now available for your study online, thanks to the popular series IntelligenceSquared Debates that has been ongoing on NPR for many years. The debate winner was selected by those in the audience and those listening to the program by how many of them were convinced by the arguments about Genetic Modification that is known as GMOs or GE, Genetic Engineering.

The Pro GMO side won with speakers that were more effective I believe in presenting their points of view. I want to encourage those who support GMO labeling and banning to study the full video online, as well as those who support GMO use to re-listen and study the debate.

My take was that the pro Gmo technology advocates were better debaters, however the arguments delivered on the against side need to be underscored. I will underscore some of these points in this Plant Your Dream Blog.

Robert Rosenkranz
Robert Rosenkranz the philanthropist behind the series opens with a couple statements, that he calls the First Order of Effects and the Second Order of Effects.

The First Order of effects that he states is that:

Well, I think, to me, the intellectual arguments are sort of first order effects and second order effects.

The first order effect of genetically modified food is that farmers can produce a lot more food a lot more efficiently, and that's particularly important for feeding people in the less developed world where hunger is a real issue. So that's a first order effect.

I do not believe this is the case. that farmers can produce a lot more food a lot more efficiently. This food over time will prove not to be food at all. We need to get down what food really is.

I will give my insights about that.

But the second order effects, now that we've had 30 years of experience with this, could include things like -- like super weeds or -- or plant species that -- that get immune to pesticides and therefore require more and more of them. So, I think it's going to be -- the intellectual side of this is going to be a debate between first and second order effects.

The second order of effects--this is the writing on the wall and will be the eventually bankruptcy of GMO and the use buying into them.

PESTICIDE & INSECTICIDE PART OF THE EQUATION THAt GOES ALONG WITH USING GMOs

GMOs? What's on the Insecticide Part of the Equation?

Rachel Carson, in the classic work, "Silent Spring," said more than fifty years ago that if we kept using the insecticides the way we were, the chemicals would no longer work, and where would we go from there? Dr. Ramon J. Seidler, Ph.D, former EPA Senior Scientist paraphrases her in an excellent interview with Kathleen Hallal of WWGF News. We have reached the point that we can go no further using this GMO approach to farming. We are in the process of producing super insects that cannot be controlled. The insects have developed resistance to all the insecticides we are throwing at them. It's time to get the message out. GMO farming is all about pesticides, Making calls today to Label GMOs in Oregon & Colorado is a good next step to stop the insanity. Both Governor candidates in Oregon are asking for YES on Labeling, David Bronner, president of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap reports in this interview.

GMO's What's Going on, on the Insecticide Part of the Equation?
http://curezone.org/blogs/fm.asp?i=2215747

“As crude a weapon as the cave man's club, the chemical barrage has been hurled against the fabric of life - a fabric on the one hand delicate and destructible, on the other miraculously tough and resilient, and capable of striking back in unexpected ways. These extraordinary capacities of life have been ignored by the practitioners of chemical control who have brought to their task no "high-minded orientation," no humility before the vast forces with which they tamper.”
― Rachel Carson, Silent Spring

A few bottle lines--some points that Dr. Charles Benbrook and Margaret Mellon of the Union of Responsible Scientists made:

GMOs have not proven the silver bullet that they were said to become. They are not the answer to our problems of agriculture. After 30 years of practice, Round Up (Glysophate product) are no longer working. We are moving on to stronger and stronger pesticides in an attempt ro control bugs and weeds that are resistant to this biotech solutions.

Biotech is now going on the stronger and stronger chemical and molecular solutions that have already been rejected by many people. We are using Agent Orange type chemicals. There are people on the scene such as Tanya Mack who first hand know the ill genetic consequences of using Agent Orange. She is having health problems that she inherited from her father who was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Her offspring are genetically showing signs of by-products of genetic mutations due to the generations before them who were exposed to some of the very products we now are intending to throw at the bugs and weeds!

MY CONCLUSIONS

We have lost our connection with Nature's Original Technoloty

The #gmodebate attests to how deeply we are fragmented as intelligent human beings. We are buying into what popular science is telling us as if it was a gospel of truth.

If we were a nation of gardeners with dominant connection to nature, the Gmo issue would not even be on the table.

We already have a perfect technology suited for living on the earth. It is called Nature's Original Technology. It will prevail. We cannot war against nature and win. That is what gmo technology is attempting to do.

Robert Fraley, Chief Technology Officer for Monsanto, and the father of Round Up Technology, was clearly to best debater in my estimation.

Some of this opening arguments included the fact that insulin, popularly accepted for diabetes use, was one of the first applications of gmo biotechnology.

His second fact was that 90% of all cheese today uses a form of rennin that uses gmo tech. This was an enlightening fact.

The presumption on the part of the use gmo advocates was that they are safe. The arguments that they may very well be dangerous were not part of the anti-gmo position. This anecdotal evidence is just starting to show up and the science, other than the AAAS brand of Robert Fraley Nina Federoff tribe is the mouthpiece of use gmo advocacy.

Uncle Sam--The Voice of Gov--is currently in the Use Gmo camp

Much of my teaching in 2014 was on the theme of "Uncle Sam Marries Auntie (Anti-GMO). This is a seed dream I hold based on shifting consciousness in America through a proliferation of more and more gardeners including children becoming part of a Grass Roots movement that once again befriends ancient grains and other heirloom original seeds as offered by @rareseeds and other distributors, as well as Seed Banks and Seed Libraries.

Many of my points of view are in this article and are also in videos online recording at the National Heirloom Expo 2014.

UNCLE SAM MARRIES AUNTIE GMO

We, as a government, are currently buying into GMO usage hook, line, and sinker. This is the government official position and the Gov cannot back out of this easily. This position will eventually bankrupt our economy further. Medicine, as we know it today, is a bankrupt system. We no longer know as a nation what medicine was intended to be.
