A message from Sarah: Help me save the Refuge ! TAKE ACTION! http://ga0.org/campaign/ARA_Hbudget/step1.tcl Dear All, While most people will never visit the Arctic Refuge, they value knowing that there are still some treasures too special to be sold to the highest bidder, some places where nature still rules. Having the unbelievable experience of seeing this wild landscape for myself, I can attest that the Arctic Refuge is a very precious jewel. First setting foot in the Arctic Refuge was humbling -- it was as though I had taken a step back in time. The place teemed with wildlife: miniature wildflowers in every color, a different bird behind every tussock, a prehistoric musk ox foraging across the river from our camp. I met Gwich’in people who depend on the refuge for their traditional way of life, as they have done for a thousand generations. The Gwich’in honor the coastal plain and birthplace of the Porcupine River caribou herd as “the sacred place where life begins.” As I walked through the refuge, I wondered if my children, and their children, would ever be able to experience true, unspoiled wilderness like this. I want them, and all people, to be able to experience the wild for themselves. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a trip is worth more than a million pictures. That is why I hope you can join me in Washington, DC, on September 20 for Arctic Refuge Action Day. In person, we can show Congress that Americans believe the Arctic Refuge is a national treasure too special to be destroyed at any price. With the vote getting closer every day, I also hope you can ask your Members of Congress to oppose drilling in the Arctic Refuge. Take action today!
