Dear All,
In the last two weeks, we have been so touched and excited by the number of people who have visited 700women.org. More than 48,000 people have already taken action! It’s time to build on our momentum. Now that you’ve added your name to the petition, make it public: become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the legislation to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Simply click here. About being a Citizen Co-Sponsor As you know, VAWA is set to expire at the end of September. In order to reauthorize it, Senators and Members of Congress have created legislation that must pass both the House of Representatives and the Senate. By becoming a Citizen Co-Sponsor, you will stand with these House and Senate members as they persuade their colleagues to bring VAWA to the floor for a vote to reauthorize this critical act. Amnesty will let your legislators know that you are a VAWA Citizen Co-Sponsor. This is an important and unique action -- making your private action public, and giving our legislators the backing they need to support VAWA. Please stand in solidarity with those members of Congress who have said that violence against women is intolerable and who are pressing for passage of VAWA. Click here to become a Citizen Co-Sponsor now. We so appreciate your actions today and throughout this campaign. Like the three of us, perhaps you have seen how domestic violence can destroy women’s lives -- and how VAWA has and will continue to make a difference. Since VAWA was first enacted, domestic violence incidents have dropped by almost 50%, rape incidents are down by 60%, and funding for shelters has increased. Yet, in spite of this kind of effectiveness, there is no guarantee that Congress will reauthorize VAWA in September. Our work together right now will make THE difference. Thank you again for all you are doing to help 700 women today and every day. Sincerely,
P.S. Please take a few minutes to spread the word: Tell your friends and family about 700 Women. |
