bidding farewell to a friend

As we have perhaps all experienced, we have to learn to accept family, and dance around those behaviors, patterns, and situations we cannot change, but that nonetheless affect us intensely, often negatively. With friends, however, there is more leeway to walk away from what cannot be tolerated or changed.
Of course there are myriads of positives associated with family and friends. That's a huge part of what makes life on earth worthwhile!
In my life currently things are a bit out of balance with one of my old friends who's just recently moved back here from another state.
It's all about money. Imagine that! And a small amount of money at that. Really it involves a matter of principle. Money sometimes serves as something people hide behind when the real issues involved are just too huge to address.
Integrity and honor are of primary importance to me.
This friendship appears to be destined to end due to my determination to stick steadfast to my principles.
It is painful and difficult to lose a friend.
So I trudge forward on the path I have chosen in life, just a little bit lonelier.
So be it.
Garrison Keillor says, "Nothing bad ever happens to a writer. Everything is material."
Well, being a writer, I can certainly relate to that, but endings are still not something I would ever consciously choose.
