eve of the fast
The last 8 years of eating, for me, has been conscious.

When I say "conscious eating" I mean that I've tried my level best to be guided by good judgement in eating habits, not that i've been any species of vegetarian (vegan, raw foodist, "fruitarian", etc.) though i have gone extended periods on a meatless diet. The focal point of my eating habit has been to reduce my food intake to once a day and have probably been successful at this 50% of the time cited above.
I've taken several 2-3 day fasts over the previous 8 years with great success. The longest i've ever fasted is 9 days which was done approximately 4 years ago. That was the most profound 9 days of my life I should say. In addition to its physical and spiritual rewards I obtained a first hand knoweldge of what is written about the detox symptoms of fasting. During the first 4 of those 9 days i experienced everything from heart palpitations, headaches, joint aches, black outs, and extreme weight loss. Yes, I lost 15 lbs in four days! and then the last 5 days were convalaescence. I felt so well on the 8th day of the fast that I actually played football and basketball as a test of my endurance. Spiritually, i felt like this world wasn't important at all, like a traveler just visting.
Because the cleansing process for me has been gradual throughout the years, 48 hour fasts have become childs play, periods of time that i can enjoy with my Creator rather than experience the horrors of detox.
I've prepared for this fast by eating a raw diet over the past 10 days (probably 70% fruit, 20% vegetable, %10 plain potato chips), eating only after 12pm and before 8pm, and NOT overeating.
