How Dog Food Saved the Earth

The Enchanted Garden teaches:

"Be on a first name basis with the person
growing your food." Grow some of your own food,
even a tomato, or a dandelion. Strive to
know the names of the farmers growing the rest
of your food. Seek out locally grown organic food
whenever possible. This is a gesture
that sustains a local economy of Peace.

"Dear Leslie and Anthony,
Thak you very much for both of your loving hearts
to all your friends--especially the ones who can't
verably communicate to us but do talk with hearts to their
owners! I always get Pet Promise. I'm so delighted to get this wonderful
book from the Pacific Symposium exhibition. Thanks again." --Ivy

"How Dog Food Saved the Earth" is a fictional account that describes
how Anthony Zolezzi, a natural foods entrepreneur,
co-creator of the "Real Life" Pet Promise company and the
Organic Center, had his life turned toward helping to sustain
organic foods back in 1990. He visited an organic strawberry field.
He was inspired by the difference
between fields of luscious life-force filled strawberries
and those that grew in sterile fields tainted
with pesticides. His experience is told fictionally
in the book.

Here is a bit of writing I just did about
"How Dog Food Saved the Earth:"

“How Dog Food Saved the Earth”
is a fictional account of the life transformation that occurs
when “an Ordinary” man--who could be
you, me, or one of the Clients
you meet in your office everyday discovers the importance
of supporting organically grown foods and food
grown through sustainable ranching practices.
This is a simply written book that will help you
and those you serve understand how your health
depends on supporting sustainable farming and ranching practices.

"So why do you do it?" Why do you go the extra mile
and make less money in the end?"

"It's the right thing to do. The way I see it, farmers,
are the caretakers of the earth. Everything I do on the farm
has a consequence. Maybe not for me in the immediate future,
but maybe for my children or the children down the road. I don't
want to contaminate my soil, or my groundwater, or the nearby streams.
I want my community livable for years to come. I'd love to pass
this land on just as my dad did for me."

"Do other farms, not just strawberry farms, use chemicals also?"

"They sure do."

“How Dog Food Saved the Earth”
belongs in your waiting room.
It is an important book to help you
and your clients understand
the importance of how the food we eat
is produced.

"...We small farmers suffer as corporations grow food
and livestock usin' growth hormones, antibiotics, chemical
fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
"...We've got to keep doin' what we're doin' It's in our blood.
Sure, we've got rough competition but we ain't out of business yet,
are we? We've got to keep makin' good, clean food for people and we've
got to take care of the land."

Supporting sustainable agriculture
and local farming go hand in hand
with being a responsible Health Caregiver in these times.

I highly recommend “How Dog Food
Saved the Earth” to you and those
you serve.

Copies are free with a $20.00
Enchanted Garden Membership at the Pacific Symposium.

Donations support the Enchanted Garden Friend of the Farm Projects,
and ongoing education projects to encourage students of PCOM
to support local farming through shopping the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market
9 am-1 am Sundays at the DMV parking lot in Hillcrest.
We call attention as well to our friends at Whole Foods Market, Hillcrest
who are actively inviting local organic farm produce in the market.

‘So much of nature as he is ignorant of,
so much of his own mind does he not possess.
And in fine, the ancient precept, “know Thyself,”
and the modern precept, “study Nature,”
become at last one maxim.”
"The American Scholar"
Ralph Waldo Emerson

This organic strawberry was grown by the
Rodriguez Family, fourth generation local
California farmers. Papa Joe, head of the family,
wakes up every morning and is very concerned
about rising costs. He wonders if it is wise
to suggest that their be a fifth generation
of local farmers.

These locally grown fresh picked that day berries
were sold at Whole Foods Market Hillcrest in Spring '06.
Local grown lettuce from the Rodriguez family is now
a regular produce item at the store. Joe The Farmer,
AKA Joe Rodriguez jr. is hopeful that their farm
will be saved through further community efforts.
The majority of the farm was sold a number of years ago,
The family continues to farm there but would like to
buy back the land with your help.

Here is the Poster I will have on my table on the Pacific Symposium.
Been working on this project, the last couple hours.
