What is the Power
in an Organic Strawberry
to change a person's Life?
Anthony Zolezzi
I’ll never forget the afternoon over 10 years ago when I observed both a conventional strawberry field and an organic strawberry field all in the same day. The contrast was startling. The first was devoid of life – the soil actually looked dead - while the second was alive and abundant with butterflies and earthworms. This one experience was life changing for me. Ever since that day I have made it my personal mission to educate people about the importance of eating organic and naturally grown foods. I have also taken an active role in promoting sustainable agriculture and organic and natural food production on family farms.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on numerous projects that have helped to nurture this mission. These have included serving as a board member of the Organic Alliance, as a founding board member of the Organic Center for Education and Promotion, and as a co-founder of the Association of Family Farms, an initiative to organize family farms and sell products direct from the farm to retail and food-service operations. I’ve also been involved in book projects including "Chemical-Free Kids," a resource for parents who want to raise their children in a toxic-free environment.
Pet Promise is a very special endeavor to me, and the people that have come together share a mutual passion. In addition to helping our "best friends" (which in my family currently include Zia, a rescue dog Shitzu mix; Zoe, a Maltese; and Casey, our adopted Lhasa Apso blend weekend dog), we are also helping bring renewed prosperity to the American family farmer and working toward eliminating unnecessary antibiotics and hormones in our own food supply. It’s an exciting mission in which to be involved, and one in which we can all take an active role.
