Very Black Man

Poem I just wrote.

Katrina

Pulled up into the
parking spot at the bank
a tad too fast. A very black
man in a red shirt
who could have
been from New Orleans was
on the sidewalk in front of me.
He looked up a bit shocked
not sure if he was safe
or if I were trustworthy.
I said “Hello!”
but from a deep, deep
place wanted to say
I am so very, very sorry.
