Feng Shui, Your Health & The Five Elements
with Melanie Ferreira

In Classical Feng Shui the 5 Elements are not only represented by color, shape, time of year, and different environments but are also associated with 5 different organ systems and the 5 flavors. In this class you will learn how these organs have a much broader definition than in the west. For example most of us in the West think of the kidneys and bladder as filtering organs. However, these organs have a much broader definition in the Eastern healing arts. The Chinese believe that the kidneys are the original source of Qi, the prenatal Qi that is inherited from our parents. They also credit the kidney/bladder system with controlling reproduction and ferlitiliy, the skeleton, bone marrow, the bones, the teeth, the brain and the power of the mind. They believe that the kidneys can also influence digestion.

To be a good Feng Shui Praticitoner one's energy must be clear, calm and healthy. In this class you will learn which organs are associated with each of the 5 elements as well as associated illnesses and how to heal them. You will learn which foods are harmful and which foods are helpful as well as powerful remedies that will cleanse and rejuvenate all you organ systems.

Energetics of Food From A Classical Chinese Medicine Perspective

According to CHinese medical theory, Qi is the fundamental substance for maintaining life. Everything in the universe is produced by its movement and changes. There are two sources of Qi present in human beings: prenatal essence and postnatal essence. The former is inherited from one's parents and is of a fixed quantity. The latter, postnatal essence includes the clear Qi that is transformed by the Spleen. It is theoretically, unlimited. The Spleen and
the Stomach are called "the resource of postnatal essence" in Chinese medicine as they play an central role in forming the body's Qi. Our diet thus becomes an important focus for attaining and maintaining health.

To understand how food affects our health we need to understand the energetics of food. This class will explore the energetics of food from a Classical Chinese Medicine perspective, analyzing  how different properties of food affect the body. Learn the 4 natures of food and their flavors, which foods are cooling or cold, and which foods are warm or hot and the actions and effects it has upon the human body.
