Just got this email from her:
I just got back from a big two-day adventure in NYC! While there, I met with Rick Frishman, who is going to represent me. He put me in touch with his attorney, Lloyd Jannis, with whom I didn't get to meet, but we spoke on the phone and he's meeting with me next week at Book Expo and wants to represent my story and financial interests in it. Rick also has Peter Allen interested in handling the story rights, etc, as my phone has rung off the hook since Mega, but since I don't know the biz, I can't do anything til I'm represented. I also got lost in Spanish Harlem, but that's a funny story to be told someday over a cup of tea. Let's just say that I wasn't welcome there. Leslie, I thought I was going to die when I got lost there! Yikes! I need a hug! lol All in all, I learned a ton and got a huge amount of work done in order to get my story out there, thus inspiring other adults hurting that they can and must heal from childhood trauma and live their true potential.
I'm now shamelessly spreading the word that I must raise the funds to sleep and eat next week in NYC for Book Expo. I'm doing this by trying to sell the extra 150 of my books I have at home for ten dollars each and looking for corporate sponsors, investors, or anyone who can help. It's going ok. I'm spreading the word of my need here at home and in NYC, letting everyone know that my trip this week was necessary but costly and as a single mother, my first trip to NYC left me almost penniless, but I'm going again next week for Book Expo, books in hand, whatever it takes.
So here's the shtick: If you know anyone who needs a roommate during Book Expo, or even has floor space for a cheap fee, please let me know. Even if you know any NY deli owners who would be willing to humor me with a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread, please tell me. Because it's the holiday weekend, the flight would cost over $600, so I'll probably have to go Greyhound. But if you know a big-wig at an airline who would allow me a jump seat, please call him now! I don't even have the cash for Greyhound, but I have the inspiration to get it done. And hey, I've climbed much bigger mountains than this, you know? :) And while we're at Book Expo, if you run into anyone who may be interested in buying my book (just 10 bucks), yell my name and I'll come running. This money will get me home to my babies on Sunday. How's that for whatever-it-takes?! :)
The kindness of others has been paramount in my healing and success. Now as I bring my story of hope and healing to the world, kind people with big names are coming out of the woodwork, cheering me on. You'd be so happy to hear about it all, Leslie. Someone from Mega even anonymously sent me a Toys R Us gift certificate, only saying they were touched by my story at Mega, and instructing me to make sure my three sons have new skateboards for the summer. It was all summed up so beautifully by my first grader when, upon his first ride on his new skateboard, he stopped, hugged and kissed me, and said, "Mommy, I get to have my new skateboard because famous people like it that you are nice to the people nobody likes, huh?" I got to watch him perform his skateboard tricks through happy tears that afternoon. That evening, my tall teenaged son walked up, put his arms around my short little body, kissed my forehead, and said, "I'm so proud that people are finally seeing how lucky I am to have you as my mom." These are the same little boys who I felt so sorry for when I was homeless; I was sorry for them because they had me as their mother. Ain't life grand?
Well, I've almost written a new book here, but I wanted to see what you are up to and ask you to spread the word of my need. If you know anyone who wants a book, please let me know. (Of course, you get yours for free; it's the friend 100% discount) One of my heroes, Abraham Lincoln, said, "Whatever you're going to be, be good at it." You've truly lived up to his expectation.
