Fasting 44 hours of every 48
Date: 2/18/2005 12:32:14 PM ( 19 y ) ... viewed 2295 times Longevity can be extended and general health and fitness improved on a restricted calorie diet. Or, so I have read in many and varied places. The research to back up this statement has mainly involved animals rather than humans. However, the number of studies and the variety of animals involved in this research strongly indicates that it would work well on humans as well. The problem with implementing such a diet is that I have been unable to determine what exactly constitutes a restricted calorie diet for me.
Then I stumbled on some related research where the test animals were allowed to eat all they wanted but were time restricted. The benefits of this diet paralleled the benefits of the restricted calorie diets, same extended longevity, same improved heath. The best I can figure, the time restriction works out in human terms to 4 hours of all you can eat and 44 hours of fasting. Or put another way, one four hour block of eating every two days.
This blog will be a weekly record of my attempt to institute this diet in my life. I am starting this diet late in life. I am currently 55 years old. I expect that the ravages to my body from a lifetime of poor eating choices will limit the benefits I can expect to see. Time will tell.
