Exotic Fruits from around the World

We all know about the great tasting fruits we see everyday: pineapples, avocados, oranges, bananas. These fruits are so good but there are so many more that most people might never have heard of. They are exotic fruits from all over the world. There are so many fruits in the world that you could eat a different fruit everyday for the rest of your life and still not even come close to tasting all of them. Let’s learn about some of these great tasting fruits.
Durian:
If I had to describe it, I would say that it looks like an oversized deformed pineapple. Actually it has a green to brown shell with spiky pines sticking out of it. On the inside, it has a sweet yellow flesh and big pits. It is sweet and juicy with custard like consistency. It is known for its strong smell. Many people say it tastes like heaven but smells like hell. It is grown in Thailand and Malaysia and is shipped frozen to Asian neighborhoods around the world. The Durian is one of the most expensive fruits you will ever see, but it tastes so good that it is well worth it.
Water coconut:
Big green coconut with meat inside that you can eat with a spoon. They are the same coconut you see in the stores with brown hair on them, before they get that way. The water inside the water coconut, also referred to as coconut milk, is the most nutritious liquid on the earth, It is the one food that a person can live on exclusively without ever getting sick. It is also called a baby coconut or a young coconut. It is sold in Latin stores or in Asian markets. They come from just about every tropical island.
Mangosteen:
The small purple brown mangosteen crack open to reveal tasty white segments with a very fine flavor. they are known as the queen of the fruits. They are grown in Southeast Asia.
Jack fruit:
An enormous yellow-green fruit that can weigh over 50lbs. Inside are hundreds of individual bright yellow or orange segments. The texture is slightly rubbery and it tastes like tutti frutti bubble gum. It is grown in Florida, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia.
Starfruit:
Shaped like a star, it tastes cool, crisp and watery. It is from Asia, but also grows in Florida.
Mamey:
On the outside, it looks like a big potato, on the inside, it has orange flesh like an avocado surrounding a big pit. It’s very filling.
Sapodilla:
It looks like a small potato. On the inside, it is brown with the texture of a non-crispy juicy pear. It tastes like a mixture between caramel and honey. It’s grown in the Caribbean where it’s called Nispero; also in Asia where it is known as Chico.
Cherimoya:
Also known as a custard apple, has a thick creamy taste. It’s green on the outside with many bumps. It grows in tropical climates.
White Sapote:
It’s round and green. On the inside, it’s white and has the consistency of a soft apple. It tastes like vanilla pudding. Grown in tropical climates.
Black Sapote:
It’s brown and soft when ripe. It’s also known as chocolate pudding fruit because it tastes like chocolate pudding. Grown in tropical climates.
