Introduction
Coronavirus pandemic has hit nations across the globe and brought down economies while putting normal lives into jeopardy. According to the reports by WHO, pneumonia of an unknown cause was detected in Wuhan, China on 31st December 2019. The outbreak was declared as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30th January 2020. On 11th February 2020, it announced a name for this virus disease and called it Covid-19.
It happened then and even though it did not seem so serious then, the virus has been spreading at a rapid rate throughout the world. Another reason for the spread of this virus was that people did not know that they had it in the first place. The earlier stains of the virus were just like common cold, mild breathing troubles but nothing that a good steam could not solve.
The rising trend
The pandemic took over India on 2nd March 2020, and since then it has witnessed a significant hike in the cases. Though the government imposed a nationwide lockdown on 23rd March for three months, the statistics show that the cases have shown a high rise since then. India administered the lowest number of cases when it was under lockdown. Among the top 3 countries to have witnessed the highest number of deaths was the US, Brazil, and Mexico. India has by far reported 6.07 million cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as of September 27, 2020, with more than 4.85 million recoveries and about 95 thousand fatalities.
The number of deaths in June was around 16487, which rose to 35003 in July. August witnessed just the double amount of deaths with approximately 600629 deaths though, an indication that things had started getting serious. The statistics for as of now show a total of 95574 deaths till the mid of September.
In July itself, India surpassed Russia in terms of infections and became the country with the most number of infections after Brazil and the US.
The total number of Covid-19 cases are 962640 and 82170 new cases of infection as of now. There were 14 states in the country which reported more than 10000 cases, Maharashtra being the worst hit amongst all. As of the latest statistics, the cases have been on a surge with cases of 80000 people reporting Corona positive in a single day. Approximately 1083 deaths have been recorded in a single day.
Seeing the current trend, India is on its way to surpass Brazil, which is the most infected country after the United States. The top five states which have witnessed the maximum number of COVID cases since the five months are Maharashtra (843,844), Andhra Pradesh (465,730), Tamil Nadu (439,959), Karnataka (370,206), and Uttar Pradesh (247,101). All these states together make for 62% of the total COVID cases in India. While Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi and Tamil Nadu account for around 70% of the total deaths caused due to Covid-19.
In the two months, India has witnessed the maximum number of surges in its cases since the lockdown was lifted. The cases have risen from 1 million to 4 million in just 2 months which is thrice the number. It is expected to rise even more as the business activities resume. The increase in the number of cases may also be due to the rapid testing that is happening in the country. Today approximately 26,456,575 people have been suffering from this pandemic across the globe. With 18,646,248 recovering and 872,473 died so far. The worst-hit country in the United States with 6,334,614 cases. Followed by Brazil, which has 4,046,150, India (3,936,747) and Russia (1,009,995).
Discussing the positive aspects, although the number of cases is increasing, the death rates have lowered. The recovery rate has been quite high since the past two months. The transition of the virus is rapidly decreasing as the statistics suggest. The corona curve has perked up since the lockdown is lifted and that is a question of great concern. Looking at the rising trend, it is essential that the curve is steeped to provide better healthcare services to the people. It aims at increasing the recovery rate without being infected. The transmission rate needs to be lowered by following all safety precautions and guidelines. India has become the fourth worst affected country for fatalities after the US to report 50000 deaths due to COVID.
This pandemic has badly hit the economy of the nation, losses in business, black marketing of sanitisers and face masks. Goods being sold at higher prices by shopkeepers, stock of consumer durable goods being short in the market. The daily wage labourers and poor people are the most affected who don’t have enough to eat, and because of no transport available, they are forced to walk miles with their families.
The statistics as of now show that the whole world has been severely affected were 48320 people have died because of this pandemic end 952171 are corona positive. Italy, which has one of the best medical care facilities in the world, was not able to cope up with this pandemic and is still struggling. America, considered to be a superpower, is working hard to fight this pandemic. You can now imagine the extent to which it has affected the lives of common people.
