Zero caffeine tea or we can say herbal tea have existed for a very long time, but have surged in popularity over the past several decades' thanks to their vibrant flavor, as well as their numerous mental, and physical health benefits. In this progressive yet stressful world, herbal teas provide an opportunity to return to basics and focus on health through its herbs rich ingredients. Herbal tea is hot or at times a cold mixture of leaves, flowering herbs, and tendor buds. Certain plant seeds, aromatic herbs, stems, peels, and roots can also be incorporated into healthy teas. Infusions derived from parts of the herb other than traditional tea leaves (Camellina Sinensis) are often called tisanes.

For centuries, our forefathers used herbal tea as a natural remedy for mental and physical illness. Those who want to improve their health in a natural way while enjoying a tasty and refreshing beverage are strongly advised to drink herbal tea. Not like coffee and typical teas (white, jasmine tea, green tea, black tea, etc.), most herbal teas have zero caffeine.

Most herbal teas contain various minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients, however, the absolute details of any herbal tea are depending on the particular herb and plant from which that tea has been made. Some health benefits of drinking herbal tea include  - protection from some common diseases, optimizing the digestive system, relaxing the body and mind, relieving inflammation, aiding sleep disorders, strengthening the immune system, body detoxification, and stimulation of cognitive function.

Procedure to make herbal tea?
  • To dry aromatic plants, combine the stems, leaves or flowers, hang them in a well-ventilated place and avoid light for 2 weeks. When the plant has dried, remove the leaves and store in an airtight container.
  • Herbal teas are generally drunk when they are hot, but there are many fruity varieties of herbal teas that taste delicious when drunk cold. The most common herbal teas are chamomile, mint, ginger, sage, lemon balm, hibiscus, and verbena.
  • For brewing, take 1 teaspoon (15 ml) of dried herbs or 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of fresh herbs in 2 cups (300-400 ml) of boil water. It is best to use boiled cold water. After that wait for 5 minutes to get it to infuse with the water. Make sure to cover the tea during the infusion process so that tea’s active ingredients are preserved. You can also add a chunk of honey or stevia to enhance its taste.
An example of an excellent herbal tea is peppermint. Peppermint tea is the most common herbal tea these days and you can find it in almost every medical or retail shop. And another very common herbal tea is ‘chamomile’, this tea is a long-term remedy for insomnia and stress relief. Some other most common herbal tea include:
  • Spearmint tea
  • Ginger tea
  • Yerba mate
  • Red rooibos tea
  • Hibiscus tea
  • Turmeric tea
Epilogue

If we go by historical records and various studies, these herbal mixtures were used not only for the benefit of physical health but also for their ability to awaken a sense of calm & spiritual consciousness. The practice of using dried fruits, plants, herbs, and other healthy ingredients is still prevalent today and nowadays many people use herbal tea to maintain their mental and physical health.
