But, two girls at Bridgeport Middle School are trying to help folks save some money.
The students are asking kids at Bridgeport Middle to donate dresses, shoes and jewelry that they no longer use and they're doing this to help kids who might not be able to afford these things.
In December the middle school will hold it's winter formal and kids who might not be able to afford dresses and accessories can schedule an appointment with the two students, come down to the room in the school and see if there's any dresses, shoes or jewelry they would want. If they like what they see they can have the dress and wear it to the dance.
After talking with the two students they just wanted to make sure no one missed out on the dance just because they couldn't afford or get things to wear.
"Just to help all the girls be able to attend the dance, instead of going out and buying an expensive dress, they can come here, borrow one or keep it, and wear it to the dance," said Maggie Peasak, an eighth grade student at Bridgeport Middle School.
"Last year a few girls came up with it and then we continued with it," said Samantha Olivio, another eighth grade student at Bridgeport Middle School. "We just want to keep doing it so that girls can keep coming in and not spend so much money on them."
But that's not all their doing either. Whatever dresses and items that are left over will be sent to Elk View Middle School, one of the schools affected by the devastating floods a few months ago.
"They make me very proud," said Carole Crawford, Principal of Bridgeport Middle School. "Not only are they giving back within the school but they're gonna give back throughout the state. But, it's not about not being able to afford a dress, it's about being smart, and recycling and their smart girls who know there are other places to spend your money besides going out and buying a $100 evening gowns uk."
