ABSTRACT
One of the highest honors that can be awarded to a physician in this country, the gold Distinguished Service medal and citation of the American Medical Association, was presented to Dr. Tom D. Spies by the American Medical Association's President, Dr. David B. Allman, at the Inaugural Meeting in the WaldorfAstoria Hotel on June 4 during the 106th Annual Meeting in New York. Dr. Spies was selected by the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association for outstanding work in the field of nutrition. Through his researches, pellagra in the southern United States and tropical sprue in Cuba and Puerto Rico have been virtually eliminated. Perhaps his greatest contribution has been his study of the dietary requirements for the preservation of tissue integrity, whereby premature aging can be prevented.
Dr. Spies was born in Ravenna, Texas, September 21, 1902. He received his A.B. degree from the University of Texas

The article was called the food you eat presented before the annual meeting of the American Medical Association 1957 .
"All diseases are caused by chemicals all diseases can be cured by chemicals. All the chemicals Used by the body except for the oxygen which we brief and the water we drink our taken through food. If we only knew enough, all diseases could be prevented and could be cured to proper nutrition. "
Dr. Tom spice is a medical Doctor Who actually worked with foods. He was given the award by the American medical Association in 1957 for great contributions in the healing arts and in the food routine.
Dr. spice continues by saying "as tissues become damaged, they lack the chemicals of good nutrition. They tend to become old. They lack what I call "tissue integrity". There are people 40 years whose brains and arteries are senile. If we can help the tissues repair themselves by correcting nutritional deficiencies, we can make old Age wait. "
