I have a dear friend and mentor who always begins his talks by acknowledging the ancestors and figures whose shoulders he stands upon.
I was uplifted by Kent Taylor, a man beloved in the hearts of many of his generosity and goodwill as an ambassador of the herb realm. I first met kent through a dinner I attended. The tables were gifted with baby herb plants as decorations. It was through the plants that I met the gifted, Kent Taylor of what was called the Taylors Herb Garden in Vista.
It was the herbs themselves that brought us together. I was already broadcasting my messages about making peace with the earth when I met Kent. Those were my Cosmic Cheerleader days before I proclaimed by i.D. as Your Enchanted Gardener. Those were the 80's and I was organizing closing ceremonies for the Whole Life Expo shows in Los Angeles.
Those Closing Ceremonies drew together stellar inspirations including Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach (1925-1992), many great singers, and leaders in what was then called the New Age. On a number of closing ceremonies I would bring in my father, Rabbi Solomon Goldman, who died February 7, 2014. He would give a prayer or two, as would the Native American teachers, or people from other schools of thought. One ceremony, I invited my old friend Janice Hinkston, who gave a little tribute to how I had been instrumental in helping her create the Santa Susana Mountain Park during my years living in the San Fernando Valley.
As an orchestrator of Closing Ceremonies, I was always on the look out for the unexpected, that special person who would show up and because of their energy, I would include them.
The one thing that was consistent from year to year were the Baby Herb Plants in pots from Ken Taylor and the Taylor Herb Garden.
Often, I would have the kids help to assembly herbs in a circle. Often we would stand around them. The herbs would absorb the peak moments that we co-created.
The Herbs were a gift and they went out to transform the landscape of Southern California in our Bioregion. One year, numbers of years later, I had a little conversation of Paul Andrews, an owner of the Whole Life Expo. He wanted to thank me for a scented geranium plant he received. He said the plant was now a stand that extended numbers of feet long. He said he thought of me many times when he watered. What a way to be remembered.
I owned my ability to be a gift giver to Kent Taylor.
Enter the Natural Product Expo West #Expowest
I heard about the Natural Product Expo West from Kent Taylor. He would go up to that show March of every year. I knew he would meet here with his friends in the herb industry, friends such as Mark Blumenthal of the American Botanical Council (ABC), Rosemary Gladstar, the great sage of hearts, Drake Sadler of Traditional Medicinal herbs.
I never met these folks until Kent, the dreamer of all dreamers, staged an event at our local San Diego Wild Animal Park. The event drew us all together including a talk by my own mentor Dr. Bernard Jensen of Escondido. I arranged for him to be a keynote.
On that day, I believe I gave a talk on Elephants and other Wild Things in the elephant show area. Mark Blumenthal, Drake, and all of Ken's buddies came down to teach. I believe that was when I met
