Why Mattress Cleaning ?

The idea of cleaning mattresses is a forgotten rather than new task. People began sleeping on mattresses over 8,000 years ago. Cleaning mattresses has been a necessary health precaution since that time. It is one of the most overlooked cleaning services provided for the home. Most peop0le are not aware that having mattresses cleaned removes allergens and contaminants and helps improve the quality of air.

Consequences

When mattresses are not cleaned, an invitation is being extended to a host of adverse medical conditions. They include respiratory infections, bronchitis, asthma, as well as, sinusitis, dermatitis, eczema and perennial rhinitis. These are permanent, life-long conditions. The family is likely to experience some daily temporary symptoms too. Not having mattresses cleaned means the occupants of a home are sleeping on unclean, contaminated mattresses and pillows.

Infestations

Over 50 percent of all homes have a dust mite infestation. One ounce of dust contains 30,000 dust mites. The average dust mite colony, that inhabits a mattress, thrives on the microenvironment. They feed on dead skin cells and produce 40 million feces pellets each day. When one lies on the mattress to sleep and rest, he or she breathes in and lies on the matter. Allergies and other health problems can result.

The ACAA, (American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology) has made the suggestion that all illnesses are aggravated if not caused by indoor air quality. The Environmental Protection Agency claims indoor quality is twice to five times worse than outdoor air quality. Indoor air quality has been rated among the greatest environmental risk factors by the EPA. Children spend about 90 to 95 percent of their time indoors. The AAAA, (American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology,) has shown “hypoallergenic” synthetic pillows can contain more pet allergens than pillows filled with feathers.

A 25 percent increase in weight of pillows occurs with the contaminant infestation. Within ten years, a mattress can double in weight. Mattress manufacturers have been known to void warranties due to unhygienic conditions.

Professional Mattress Cleaning

Mattresses are a big investment. Choosing a professional mattress cleaning service should not be a random decision. Professionals who can take care of all mattress types should be enlisted. Tools specially designed to gently clean crevices, and folds are used.

With recent technology advances, the indoor air quality of a home can be improved by having an experienced technician clean mattresses and pillows. The mattress will be inspected for trouble areas. A two-step process is used, to thoroughly clean and deodorize the mattress. When finished, the work will be reinspected, and a satisfaction guarantee will be issued.

Having professional mattress cleaning done every six months removes a variety of allergens that include fungi, pollen spores, mildew and mold. Biannual cleaning removes microscopic pests that have made a mattress their home. They include bed bugs, silverfish, lice and scabies. An allergen control technician is the best defense against the sources of allergies. In between having mattresses cleaned professionally, people should spot clean and vacuum monthly to prevent build-up of pests and allergens.
