I participated in a 30-minute press conference today organized by the USDA. The event ran smoothly and gave me a really good feel for Sec Vilsack and his efforts to uphold nutrition progress made by the Hunger-Free Food Act. Very inspiring and impressive report of successes were reported by School Food Service Director Donna Martin from Burke County Georgia where Kids are getting locally grown fruits and vegetables included. They are getting fresh milled Whole Wheat! The youth are responding to the improvement. The participation from Military William S. Wallace, General, U.S. Army (Retired), James A. "Jamie" Barnett, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy (Retired) underscored important points that we are supporting Military Readiness when we support healthier foods for our kids in the schools.

REPORT THAT SHOWS DONNA MARTIN 2011
The coaches in this CBS VIDEO attribute their improvement to the Nutrition program.
This was a highlight.
The message from the Military members was also impressive. 62,000 were turned away between 2006 and 2011 due to overweight.
Unfit Children, and references to the Military being unfit was a theme in "The Science of Eating (1919). The attempts of the Moneybags to shortchange the health of our kids goes back that far, or more.
The Press Conference was a day after the Organic Trade Association (OTA) Policy meeting May 21-May 22 where Sec Vilsack also spoke.
I feel that #OrganicTrade has much to contribute to improving selections that can go into the schools.

Dear Uncle Leslie,
I really enjoyed your presentation yesterday. It uplifted my spirits and made me feel like I had to do something to make our planet better. Personally, I don't eat vegetables but everything you said changed my mind about it. I do need to change my eating habits and I do need to grow my own vegetables. You kept the classes' attention. You were funny, and you kept us interested. You'll probable be the man that'll actually get our generation to do their part in helping rebuild our enchanted garden.
Sincerely,

Agriculture Secretary Vilsack, Retired Military Leaders and a School Food Service Director to Host Media Call on Recent Attempts to Undermine Child Nutrition Standards and the Impact on Military Readiness
WASHINGTON, May 22, 2014- TODAY, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, William S. Wallace, General, U.S. Army (Retired), James A. "Jamie" Barnett, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy (Retired) and School Food Service Director Donna Martin of Burke County, Ga. hosted a media call to discuss efforts by some Members of Congress and special interest groups to undermine childhood nutrition standards and the effect that would have on military readiness. The retired generals and admirals of Mission: Readiness have strongly voiced their opposition to efforts by Members of Congress and special interests to weaken nutrition standards.
According to Mission: Readiness, more than one in five young Americans is too overweight to enlist in the armed services. Being overweight or obese is the number one medical reason why young adults cannot enlist and represents a major threat to national security. An estimated 75 percent of all young Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 are unable to join the military for various reasons including being physically unfit.
