Why Prevention is Always Better than Cure in Medicine
Medical technology has made huge strides in recent times. This advancement has helped save millions of lives but it has also performed something of a disservice to humanity. It has lulled us into a false sense of security that we can live the life we want and then if (and when) we fall ill; the medical community will find a solution for the problem.

This advancement has helped save millions of lives but it has also performed something of a disservice to humanity. It has lulled us into a false sense of security that we can live the life we want and then if (and when) we fall ill; the medical community will find a solution for the problem.
The problem with health care today
In other words many of us have fallen for the misconception that healthcare means waiting to get ill before looking for a medical solution to address the problem. Many pharmaceutical companies spend a lot of resources telling us how they have a cure for this or that affliction, and so we tend to rest assured doing little if anything proactive for preserving good health. However consider the fact that being ill is very unpleasant. It is debilitating, painful and expensive; and most medicines will have some sort of side effect on the body.
So while you will likely overcome a medical ailment, it will mean that you have suffered through the illness, have had to spend time and money and effort overcoming it. You have probably experienced side effects of the medications and have even perhaps been stuck with some unpleasant injunction in terms of things that you cannot eat or activities you have to refrain from; perhaps for life!
So here's a novel approach: how about trying not to fall ill! For instance wouldn't you rather take care of your teeth by brushing and regularly using floss rather than having to undergo root canal treatments or the embarrassment of unseemly extracted teeth? Prevention is so much better than cure - in terms of costs to your wellbeing as well as your bank balance.
Easier said than done we hear your say? Well that's true enough. There is only so much that is within our control - we can eat right, exercise regularly, lead a healthy lifestyle, be responsible about any self medication - but we can still end up with illness, debility and disease. Environmental factors, genetics and many other factors out of our control can and do make us ill.
Importance of early detection
Do you know that the best chance of beating cancer is early detection? The earlier you detect the cancer, the better are your chances for complete recovery. This is true for practically any ailment.
A lot of research has gone into importance of preventive health care - testing and early detection have emerged as the most effective ways to remain healthy and keep health care costs down. Health testing helps you limit a medical condition before it spirals out of control or becomes life threatening.
The fact is that illnesses are not sudden - they build up over time so the best thing to do is keep a check on your health so that you can nip the problem in the bud. Research has shown that a healthy lifestyle coupled with regular medical checkups can help you save up to 50% on your medical bills.
