By the time the vote neared on November 6, election day, I was already feeling burned out. I felt the change of seasons in my bones and in my ears that were clogging up. I saw a vision back in May that came out of conversations with Pamm Larry: We would need 7.5 Million + 2, a Simple Majority to get more votes than the No on 37 side.
In the final count, that is still being counted as I write this on November 28, 2012. the YES side had more than 5.7 + million Votes. The No side had more than 6.1+ Votes.
They are running 4 points ahead of us, meaning they have more than we have.
The No Side used every fear tactic to convince innocent voters who had no time to really get into this Prop 37, that they would be harmed if Yes Won. They convinced local San Diego Farmers that they would be gang tackled by vicious hungry attorneys. They convinced local farmers that an enormous system of beaurocratic extra red tape would be added to their already burdensome farming life.
They convinced shoppers that their food costs would go up by something like $400.00. This was enough to turn the tide at the ballot box.
They took out full page Ads. One was in an Oakland Black Neighborhood using these scare tactics.
They took advantage of the FDA position that basically is in the farmbed with GMOs, a position that says, GMO foods are no different than conventional foods.
They enlisted the support of some of the finest of GMO scientists including Scientists who came out within about two weeks of Nov 6 to say that they were on the NO side. Dr. Nina Federoff, called our GMO ambassador for the state department, is also on the AAAS Board of Directors. She was one of the lead GMO Vote No voices through the campaign.
The FDA position is that basically GMOs are harmless. This was reflected in one ad that asked about Pizza: Do the ingredients in one pizza differ from another? Why should one pizza be labeled and not another ?
All this added a lot of confusion.
And then on the Yes side, we were spending and gathering as much money to counter the $47 Million campaign. My strategy would have been to train the Grassroots early on in the Campaign. I felt we needed to have a convention. I would have used some of our money early on to scholarship and train more of an on the ground team.
In spite of our results, there were many Unsung Heroes. I am going to reach out to name some of them in future Plant Your Dream Blogs.
With God's will and support from Sponsors, I am going to invest more time, to dissect the Campaign as I saw it...on the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food Facebook Page.
We lost because of dishonestly and a lack of ethics on the No side. We lost because we did not have the on the ground Grass roots team who knew how to speak to strangers about GMOs.
Our Grassroots are still growing.
The Garden says we we turn back GMOs because this is important.

PROP 37 WINS BECAUSE OF YOU VIDEO LESLIE GOLDMAN
UNSUNG HEROES OF YES ON 37
THIS PETITION OF SUPPORT FOR PROP 37 LAYS THE GRASSROOTS FOR WHAT IS STILL TO COME. GROW A HEALTHIER PIZZA MEANS GROW SOME OF OUR OWN FOOD. THIS IS A KEY TO SUCCESS FOR OUTGROWING GMO PROLIFERATION. GET YOUR BEAT BACK WITH NATURE
MY PREMISE IS THAT UNTIL WE HAVE MORE PEOPLE NOT ONLY ON THE GROUND BUT IN THE GROUND REGAINING OUR BEAT WITH NATURE WE WILL END OF LOSING OUT ON OUR FUNDAMENTAL FOOD SAFETY AND SECURITY
Toward this end, I am aiming to teach at home here at the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community. We have one opening for a new housemate. I would like this to be a youth who I can support in part toward the rent.
It is youth that will save us from ourselves.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GROW A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT?
I want to look at this in future Plant Your Dream Blogs.
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM OF PROP 37
Is labeling enough? Is that a form of co-existence with GMO foods that truly have no business being in business? We kept saying, we just want to Label it! and many of knew that we wanted more.
WATCH THIS VIDEO FROM JEFFREY M. SMITH
This was made a short while after the No side got more votes than the Yes side on Prop 37. Posted here Nov. 29.
Included in this camp was Jeffrey M. Smith.
The No side knew that many of us wanted more than just Label it. They were fighting for their lives. They used every tactic they knew to convince people that the we did not need the Right to Know.
