Long list of reasons to oppose Prop. 37 are Falsehoods
Do you want to take a stand against poorly written ballot initiatives? Against ballot initiatives that are written to financially benefit their sponsors? Against ballot initiatives that are billed as noble but are anything but?
Then vote no Nov. 6 on Proposition 37.
The measure would require labeling on some types of genetically modified food, but not others, and without a good explanation as to why. The primary intent seems to be to stigmatize certain foods, to the potential benefit of a financial sponsor of the initiative, an organic-foods tycoon. Proposition 37 also allows for shakedown lawsuits of small retailers who allegedly aren’t complying with labeling requirements, explaining its strong support from some trial lawyers.
We think it is a legitimate question as to whether genetically modified foods should be labeled, and we hope the federal government looks at the issue. Congressional hearings may be in order. But we don’t think California should lead the way on the labeling front with such a poorly crafted, dubiously motivated state law.
Prop 37: A Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food is Needed
Prop 37: A Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food is Needed
I want to go on record this Nov. 6, as saying YES on 37. Dr. Harvey W. Wiley. MD, who founded the idea that became the FDA, and Alfred W. McCann, a noble journalist of his day, called out for Food Reform. They stood up against the Special Interests that have bred the likes of the NO on 37 Special Interests that could call out one Organic Contributor, in contrast to the $47 Million Campaign of Deception that has frightened and scared so many into voting against their best interests, the Right to Know What is in our Food.
If Biotech feels they have another plan better than nature, let them honestly enter a true Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food on the stage of the AAAS--The American Association for the Advancement of Science-- with all points of view expressing. The tension between GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers will lessen because truth will be told. It is only then that Science will be restored to the role it was meant to play.
Prop 37 can be compared to a Football game, but the final vote will not record the outtcome of this game. Each maneuver of the campaign was like a play of the game, The difference between the Prop 37 campaign and a football game is that there were no rules here based on ethics. In football, you have referees in stripped black and white shirts. In this game of politics, there were no fair referees.
It is not a Fair Fight, when the No side buys a full page ad in a local black paper in Oakland and says that grocery bills will go up $400.00 if YES wins. That simply was not true. That was a deception.
It was not a Fair fight to scare local San Diego farmers into believing that they
would be vulnerable to suits if Yes passed. Their was no basis of reality in that. Farmers are farmers. They have enough on their minds, and do what they do best. The best of them grow our food in a Godly way. Organic is too small a word to describe the inherent holiness of a farmer. We will not allow Monsanto or anyone to continue to desecrate our relationship to the soul by further degrading our seeds or soil. Food is precious. Food is used to Plant Your Dream. Food is Sacred substance.
This was a People's Initiative, a good simple Prop that faced off against tremendous forces that would sell out our children's lunches for their bottom-line. Truth will prevail. Prop 37 was only the beginning. GMOs will be Labeled.
I am in gratitude to the millions who saw through the Monsanto and Co Campaign of Deception. The People, if not the Federal Gov. Department of Justice, will never let this issue rest.
