Rodney Dangerfield and Candida
In the medical world, Candida seems to be the Rodney Dangerfield of infections, it gets no respect. If you go to an MD, he's more likely to tell you that it's all in your head and prescribe antidepressents, than take you seriously. If he doesn't outright dismiss you, he may also add that only patients with severly depressed immune systems can get candida. Is this a justified response?

Rodney Dangerfield was a comedian and most comics will tell you that they do better in some cities than others. They may "kill" in New York City, but bomb in Los Angeles. Candida seems to do just as well. It bombs in the medical profession, but gets the attention it deserves in the scientific community and holistic fields.
Since the introduction of antibiotics, there have been over 24,000 studies on candida. That's one study for every day of the year during the past 63 years, plus enough left over for another 6 years. In the world of science, it's made the big time and bright lights!
So is it true that only immunosuppressed people get candida? From all of the research that I've been analyzing for years, that's just not the case. Here's an excerpt from CandidaFactSheet.com -
"Modern medicine states that systemic Candida exists only in immunocompromised individuals, as a result of AIDS, immunosuppressive therapy, such as in organ transplants, or chemotherapy. Science states otherwise, and extends that list to include: diabetes, premature infants, surgical patients; (7)(10)(66) hematological malignancies; (8) hospitalized patients, especially in Intensive Care Units, or having major injuries;(10) burn victims; (54) nutritional deficiencies; (22) as well as aging. Researchers continuously broaden the scope of those being affected. Valdimarsson et al. state that there are no common immunological denominators. (1) Senet states that the pathogenic behavior of Candida may appear following even a slight modification of the host. (55) Berg et al. on behalf of Biocodex Pharmaceuticals states that Candida spreads in immunocompetent individuals. (68)"
From what I've seen in the research over many years, anyone who has ever had antibiotics will have systemic fungal candida. Today's antibiotics are so powerful that a single antibiotic pill can destroy the ecosystem of the digestive tract and quickly lead to systemic candida. In fact, researchers who study candida will use antibiotics to create the problem. To them, nothing is more reliable for creating fungal candida.
Science takes candida very seriously, as more and more studies reveal it's connection to many conditions and diseases. A recent study released last month revealed that candida can lead to autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis, cancers, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. Researchers at the University of California found that protease enzymes, as produced by the fungal form of candida, can cause diabetes, hypertension, and immunosuppression.
One look at the typical list of candida symptoms reveals that every organ, tissue, and cell in the body can be affected. Candida is known for it's ability to survive in every type of environment present in the body. It can live with oxygen or no oxygen, with sugars or no sugars, on the body or in the body. It can manipulate our immune system or suppress it. Conditions can range from toe fungus to brain tumors. The fact that candida can cause so many problems happens to be one of the reasons that the medical profession doesn't accept it. MDs like things tied up in nice little bows that they can throw medicine at. Complex diagnostic pictures like candida are beyond their scope of practice and understanding. It's easier for them to tell someone that it's all in their head, than it is to consider such complex issues.
As a Doctor of Chiropractic for the past 28 years and a 3rd generation Chiropractor, I'm well aware of the medical professions lack in many areas. Thousands of patients have shared their medical horror stories with me and every other Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Oriental Medical doctor, Homeopathic doctor, massage therapist, etc. It amazes me when many of these individuals will continue to go back to the medial profession for answers, only to be disappointed again. The answer is always the same, more pills.
If you've had antibiotics, you'll have systemic fungal candida. If you go to the medical profession looking for answers, don't.
I think Rodney Dangerfield said it best - A girl phoned me the other day and said... 'Come on over, there's nobody home.' I went over. Nobody was home.
