Take a Stand for Human Rights. Take a Stand for Peace. Read the truth about what’s happening in Uganda today - http://ugandagenocide.info
- a genocide unfolding hour by hour, minute by minute.
2) Victims of the 20 year war in Uganda have been almost exclusively civilians. They have been killed, abducted, mutilated and sexually violated by the LRA; Uganda’s national army, the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) has similarly committed massive human rights abuses, including murders and rapes against the civilians. Atrocities by both sides are well documented, including in the recent June 2007 report, "Making Peace our Own," by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR); please see
The Other Very Compelling Video to Watch is Called KONY12 issued
by the International Invisible Children's Foundation of San Diego:
The KONY12 Video
This is a very compelling a profoundly moving video that is the most watched video right now on the internet. The video for one thing shows that we each have the tools to influence each other through Facebook, and we each have the technology to influence our government to take the actions that need to be taken.
This is the Story that the KONY12 Video Tells:
Invisible Children – Kony 2012.
Filmmaker Jason Russell visited Africa in 2003 and returned with a story that made people ask what they could do to help. Jason co-founded the non-profit Invisible Children Inc. which is working to make the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, Joseph Kony of Uganda famous by raising support for his arrest. Kony’s arrest will save thousands of women and children allowing them to live a normal life without fear from the LRA rebels. Jason shares with us his friend Jacob, who after losing his brother and not having the opportunity to attend school Jacob would rather die than live. Unfortunately the ‘United States will not get involved if our National Security or Financial Interest aren’t at stake’. The issue to the US government is not important enough to get involved. So, the people have spoken and made it clear that they want to see something done. Invisible Children currently has 475,000 fans on Facebook and looking to increase that number before April 20th. On the night of April 20th, Kony 2012 crews will hit the streets to set up posters, with hopes of grabbing national attention to the issue. This 30 minute video will be the best thing you watch all week and you can help by spreading the word to get our government involved.
I want to acknowledge the well meaning intentions of both of these groups.
Looking Deeper at Genocide at Home and In Uganda
We live in profoundly important times. Anyone who has time to sit around and enjoy a Saturday night with friends is to be congratulated for doing the right thing....and then, then, there is a time to get off the couch and using our amazing abilities to help the condition of Food In the World.
In Uganda, if People had Fertile Soil and the Skills to Grow Chemical Free Food Without Fear or Harm, They Could Help Themselves Recover from Genocide
That is my position. Not long ago, Joe Rodriguez Jr. of local JR Organics, a San Diego based fifth generation farmer went to Africa. I will be reporting back to you here on the Plant Your Dream Blog.
That is the kind of action that is needed.
The basics: are water, organic seed, and fear from death. Right now, it is hard to grow food when you could be abducted, raped, mutilated, or murdered.
It is hard to Cultivate Food Justice, or take steps toward Food Safety when you are starving.
We are the Lucky Ones.
We are the lucky ones. There are things we can do right here in San Diego to help now.
