RAW NOTES HERE
This Plant Your Dream Blog contains my raw notes and internet research done the evening of March 27, 2012. This was the day I learned from Pamm Larry of the Label GMOs CA Right to know campaign that we had crossed the 500,000 mark of an estimated 850,000 valid signatures needed to get on the CA ballot. On this same day, March 27, 1,000,000 voices sent a message to the FDA through the Label it campaign that we want government support to let us know that foods contain GMos.
Here is a more finished Plant Your Dream Blog in process now.
I am to send this one on to the Huffington Post.
Today, the Center for Food Safety (CFS or the Center) applauded the submission of a record-breaking one million public comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) calling on the agency to require the labeling of genetically engineered foods. CFS filed the legal petition 180 days ago in October, 2011. More than 450 organizations, businesses and associations came together to support the CFS legal action in the Just Label It Campaign. Several Just Label It participants also joined the Center’s petition, and together, the groups collected and submitted over one million public comments to FDA demanding the agency label genetically engineered food.
At issue is the fundamental right consumers have to make informed choices about the food they eat. FDA currently requires over 3,000 other ingredients, additives, and processes to be labeled, but not transgenic ingredients. “The public has spoken, loud and clear: FDA should require the labeling of genetically engineered foods,” said Andrew Kimbrell, Executive Director of the Center for Food Safety. “Providing basic information doesn’t confuse people, it empowers them to make informed choices. Absent labeling, Americans are left in the dark, unable to choose for themselves whether to purchase GE foods.”

YOUR CHOICE SAYS RONNIE CUMMINGS
Listening to this powerful Youtube that features Ronnie Cummings and
Pamm Larry!!!!
It was left to the manufacturers to go through the process of being
non GMO. The Whole Foods Market brand is organic.
10 billion sold....outside of canola, cotton, currently 100's and 1000's not modified...the consumer will give us a choice...create a consideration...
25% us own store brand...
Organic and natural...a year or more...2012...a lot of products...becomes complex...target those that are obvious...
The typical consumer...doesn't know...Mercola says...
intention is to label all of it...
GET OFF THE BACK OF WHOLE FOODS
Whole Foods Market is a trendsetter for the supermarket industry.
In this interview with Michael Becancon, by Dr Mercola, we hear that
the WFM gross in class to 10 Billion a year. Whole Foods Market sells a great deal of organic as well as local organic produce, and has been a founding supporter of the Non GMO project. The WFM position has been to move toward more and more labeling of GMOs sold in their stores and let the consumer create the tipping point with voicing. In the next year, I would like to lead a tour of my local WFM Hillcrest, pointing out where the GMOs and Organic produce is located. The mission of WFM is to prosper while doing good. They offer themselves up as a source of organic and natural produce.
I do not knock them for that.
NOTES FROM THE INTERVIEW
Michael Besancon, now retired from Whole Foods Market discusses
that Whole Foods Market position...and support for labeling GMOs.
Whole Foods was founding members of the non GMO project. .9 % is allowed by law. RBST...looking for consumers to speak up...the consumers voted...
We're hoping with the certification that the consumers will vote with their pocketbooks and purchases. We think we can do the best with our private label products.... identifying the foods....a lot of product that has a label that says non GMO. There was no auditing agency for labeling...that is why we supported the non GMO project.
ramping up the Non GMO project...we are in the beginning stages...
looking to support from the manufacturers and the listeners to buy those
products that have been vertified.
However, the official position of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Department of Agriculture (USDA) is: There is no difference between GMOs and non-GMOs. These agencies have also proposed to the CODEX Alimentarius Commission (UN Food and Agriculture Organization), that no country should be able to require mandatory GMO labeling on food items. The FDA and USDA say that mandatory labeling of GMOs is “false, misleading, and deceptive, implying there is a difference between GMO and non-GMO ingredients.” Ultimately, the FDA and USDA want to do away with product labeling standards overall, trusting corporations to maintain necessary health standards.
