I spent the morning processing feelings. I went to a lovely event last night called "Local Goes Global Party For Good' Sponsored by Whole Foods Market Hillcrest. I have high praise for This Whole Foods Market. They go the distance to support local organic farmers. The event last night was to raise money for the Whole Planet Foundation, an outstanding and well deserving of praise Non Profit, sponsored by Whole Foods Market. The Whole Planet Foundation gives Micro Loans to needed women to start businesses.
The part the came to a head for me last night, was that in wanting to support the activity I was pretty much eating Foods with GMO Ingredients. Most foods today have GMOs in them in the US, although these are labeled in many countries.
The hard part for me to process is how "taken for granted "GMOs are. Most people last night never thought twice about GMO ingredients being in the foods we ate. I brought a petition with me for the CA ballot initiative to label GMOs. I have been collecting signatures for this. I asked about ten people to sign, and six of them did. A few people were not registered. Another thought the measure was too fax and had too many loopholes.
I also do not feel the CA ballot initiative goes far enough. It does in my mind set organic food as a standard if we want to avoid GMOs. It also willl clean up the use of the word Natural. Natural, right now, has no power. Foods with GMO ingredients are called Natural. This is a shock to most people.
The truth is, most of us are in the dark about GMOs. This is the year to wise up and see the harm they are likely doing inside us and in our environment. We have a long way to go.
The best thing that I can say about the CA ballot initiative is that it is a beginning.
It can likely pass, and in doing so, start an education process. If we get some foods labeled, this was make more consumers aware. Right now, most consumers do not even know what GMOs are. Even, among those who are conscious of how they eat, they do not know that GMOs may likely be in the foods we are eating, even when we go out to do good.

I Thoroughly enjoyed eating two pieces of this pizza from Caffe Caabria, and buying two pieces as well for my guest, but this morning I find myself struggling to get back to my truth, I would like my food choices to be Organic. I would like organic ingredients in my pizza. That is the only way I know I am not eating GMOs today. I do not want to eat GMOs. I want to help others have a choice. I believe everyone has a right to know what is in their food.

I do not want to be a party pooper, and I am not into ragging on Whole Foods Market. I believe Whole Foods Market takes a lot of hits. There is no way around it. GMOs are everywhere. The forces who want people to accept that GMOs are everywhere, do well by making sure Whole Foods Market has a rough time. Hurting their business is good for those who want to Organic Trade to suffer. Whole Foods is not all Organic. Few stores today are, but they are still a trend setting, and they deserve acknowledgement for setting a standard for all supermarkets.
Lots of happy people got together February 29 to raise money for the Whole Planet Foundation at a lovely event called "Local Goes Global Party for Good." I was happy to contribute to this wonderful project that gives micro loans to women who want to start businesses. At the same time, I know an incredible local shift is necessary if we are to get the 800,000 signatures needed to take a first step to get GMOs Labeled and begin a needed Shift to says we have a right to know that GMOs are in our food.
One day, we will get GMOs out of our food supply. The education needs to begin someplace. I hope some of this information helps.

Currently there is no health testing required despite warnings from the FDA’s own scientists. Recent studies show that genetically engineering food can create new, unintended toxic substances and increase allergies, cancer risks, and other health problems, especially for children. Experts around the world agree that manda- tory labeling of GMOs can provide a critical method for tracking the potential health effects of eating these
foods. Polls consistently show that more than 90 percent of the public want labels on geneti- cally engineered foods. And yet an estimated 80 percent of our packaged foods contain unla- beled GMOs. Many of these come in the form of hidden in- gredients such as sweeteners, lecithin, glycerin, vitamin C and cellulose, and that is just to name a few.

I went to a lovely event last night in San DIego, a city where some of its residents are busy collecting signatures so we can get a measure on the ballot that asks that our state Label GMOs because we have a Right to Know if GMOs are in our food.

THE OFFICIAL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POSITION IS THAT GMOs AND CONVENTION FOODS ARE BASICALLY NO DIFFERENT
The Federal position is that GMOs--foods that are Genetically Engineered--are basically no different. This is a position that may be good for business, as some see it, but it is not good for health.

Here is one quote from the Grist Article quoted here:
FDA spokeswoman Tamara Ward said the agency “has not found that foods from genetically engineered organisms, as a class, present different or greater safety concerns than their conventional counterparts.”
Of course, the FDA can say that, because — as Tom Philpott reports — the science behind the safety of GMOs is limited to nonexistent. And not by accident. As he details, there is almost no research on the health impacts of genetically engineered food; the food industry convinced the FDA it wasn’t necessary and companies who control the patents on GMO seeds refuse to allow scientists access unless they agree not to look into safety.

WE ARE EATING GMOs. IT WILL TAKE A TREMENDOUS SHIFT
TO CHANGE OUR HABITS
Last night--at a very lovely event--I was among those who did not turn away from the GMOs. At the same time, I brought a petition with me to Label GMOs. I took time to introduce the petition to about ten people. six of them signed it.
Meanwhile, I spent the evening eating Foods that were not organic, and likely
had traces of GMOs in them.
ARE WE GOING TO GET THIS DONE? ARE WE GOING TO LABEL GMOs SO AT LEAST WE CAN HAVE CHOICE?
A massive shift is necessary. Very good people are serving GMOs to others. We do not have GMOs on our Radar.
I woke up depressed this morning, and with some diarrhea. In part, it was because I ate foods for a good cause. On the other hand, I could have done better.
I PERSONALLY DO NOT FEEL THE CA INITIATIVE GOES FAR ENOUGH
BUT I AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT
I have been perseverating over the words of the label GMOs CA ballot initiative. There are many exceptions that do not require labeling of GMO ingredients on foods that contain GMO ingredients, but some foods that contain GMO's will labeled. The initiative can serve to educate that organic food is our safest choice not if we want to come close to avoiding foods that contain GMO's. The CA ballot initiative can also raise awareness that currently that what we call natural foods contains GMO's.
It is my hope that some labeling will begin to raise up some curiosity and turn shoppers away from foods that contain GMOs.

GMOs are Dangerous; We have a Right to Know. The CA Ballot initiative does not go far enough to label GMOs, but enough foods will be labeled so that the conversation about the dangers of GMOs will be begin. The best outcome I see is that people will buy more organic food. Organic Food, for the most part, is GMO Free. The Measure also prohibits Genetically Engineered foods from being labeled as natural foods. Much of our food supply is currently in a state of Food Emergency.

ORGANIC UPRISING 2012
What do we need right now? It is an Organic Uprising. Each of us being an Organic Uprising. We need a lifestyle Shift. By
this I mean we need to get our beat with nature back. This comes as we grow some of our own food.
Prince Charles in this article 2008, states my position:

(11-0099.) GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOODS. MANDATORY LABELING. INITIATIVE STATUTE. Requires labeling on raw or processed food offered for sale to consumers if made from plants or animals with genetic material changed in specific ways. Prohibits labeling or advertising such food as "natural." Exempts foods that are: certified organic; unintentional produced with genetically engineered material but not genetically engineered themselves; processed with or containing only small amounts of genetically engineered ingredients; adminsitered for treatment of medical conditions; sold for immediate consumption such as in a restaurant; or alcoholic beverages. Summary of estimate by Legislative analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Potential increase in state administrative costs of up to one million dollars annually to monitor compliance with the disclosure requirements specified in the measure. Unknown, but potentially significant, costs for the courts, the Attorney General, and district attorneys due to litigation resulting from possible violations to the provisions of this measure.

Ronnie Cummins, Alexis Baden-Mayer and the rest of the team were right there from the beginning and have continued to be a driving force for truth telling in the organic industry and keeping the grassroots strong. helped out at a crucial point in our grassroots building. Because they were willing to put out the word to their members to help me get meetings in communities, labelgmos.org (www.labelgmos.org), the original grassroots effort, grew exponentially in a very short time.
