Yesterday was not much of a fun day. It got worse around between 5 pm -7pm, when one of my good neighbors, across the Arosa Canyon, owner of
the property that joins our backyard Sacred Circle Area, called to tell me, if the weather was good, she was going to have her Overgrowth Cleanup helper and his crew, on our side of the canyon cutting and spraying Roundup Herbicide.
I put a considerable amount of hours into the Overgrowth Cleanup, including further explanations and strategies.
I spent time bringing up to date two of my housemates, who both helped with aspects of the cleanup of one area to the East of the property. Considerable progress was made with that area.
It had Arundo. Andrew Blume cleared the area down to the level of soil. The soil was very good indicating that Arundo Donax (Giant Reed) makes very good compost. We already had compost there from cut pieces of Arundo having naturally disintegrated.

We were able to cut out some of the roots. This will be a good test.

COMPOST PILE EXPERIMENT ALSO STARTED
Andrew Blume, graduate of the Arche's Acres training program for former military also set up the beginning of a compost pile. We put down three barrels of mulched Arundo donax (Giant Reed). These where three large plastic cans. I will get the size later.
These were standing since October______. That was the weekend when we rented the large shredder for the second time. We bagged up about eight large bags of Arundo Donax (Giant Reed). We also loaded up three or more cans of A. Donax. There were already signs of some decomposition beginning to take place lower in the barrels that we emptied.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPOST MAKING
Making soil is one of the most important needs for restoring humanity now. We are, most of us in the US, suffering from the results of a lack of topsoil. We are starved of micro-nutrients.
NEXT STEPS
The Arundo Donax also has green material. This needs to be added to the pile. Then, we need to add some remains of vegetables and some earthworms. We do not have a source of manure.
in the past, it was reported by former housemates that we were able to make compost. This was done burying Arundo Donax (Giant Reed) in soil, likely with kitchen vegetable remains.
ARUNDO DONAX (GIANT REED) HAD BOTH GREENS AND BROWNS
When you make compost you use greens, browns, and some kind of vegetable matter or manure. I like that Arundo Donax has both.
