The Future Best Uses for the Arosa Canyon

The Future Best Uses for the Arosa Canyon.

The Fire Prevention Bureau and and a great staff member Sylvia Sowadski has been working with us to clean up the Overgrowth on our property and in the nearby canyon. We have been working on this for a month now and making good progress.

The Miramir Greenery and the Fire Prevention Bureau was under the impression that Arundo Donax could not be mulched. We proved that it could.

When we first talked, my new ally Sylvia was under the impressing the Round Up was the way to go with killing Arundo Donax (Great Reed). Since I have learned that Arundo can be managed gracefully if many hands work together. There are many ways to kill the root system, or slow it down its grown, and one of them is covering it up with Arundo Donax mulch, over black plastic, and strong vinegar.

Ultimately, we will come to terms with Arundo. At Camp Pendleton, where they have spend thousands killing it, they will learn to grow it because is is a remarkable source for replacing oil.

Soon, someone will read this blog and make an investment in Arundo in the right location and make a mint. Hopefully they will send me a contribution for helping them S...

The cleanup of our Overgrowth has been going on for about a month now in various stages. I see this as an opportunity to get to know and work with our neighbors.

Our canyon land is in private ownership and we have gardens on some of the land already on property owned by our neighbors who land borders our own.

I look forward to further work with neighbors and the Fire Prevention Bureau
The best use of the canyon needs to be carefully considered. Our city council is saying yes to community gardens and supporting the movement to grow our own foods organically, and I see our unique property, 1/3 acre,/ This canyon is an important nature preserve with many native species and herbs.

Our canyon borders the homes of many neighbors who live here enjoying wildlife and open space. Gratefully, we have an outstanding staff member of the Fire Prevention Bureau who is working with us to help find solutions.

WE PROVED IT

The Miramar Greenery said this could not be done, and so did the Fire Prevention Bureau of San Diego. City Environmental Services said Arundo Donax was waste for the landfill. How many pounds of landfill space did we save through following our instincts, renting this enormous chipper Shredding from AI Rentals, and mulching our Arundo and other canyon waste?

FLETCHER MORGAN AT YOUR SERVICE

This is our promising arborist, Fletcher Morgan.

Our goal is to manage our stand of Arundo Donax, showing that the root system can be killed when necesary without Round Up.

THIS VIDEO SHOWS ONE HAPPY MOTHER WHO APPRECIATED TAKING SOME OF OUR ARUNDO FOR A SCHOOL

THIS VIDEO SUGGESTS OUR CHIPPED ARUNDO HAD POSSIBLE MONEY VALUE AS A SOURCE OF MULCH

Isn't this a better choice that filling our landfill with unneeded so called
Arundo Donax Waste that can be mulched, among other uses?

ARE THERE POSSIBLE NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
FROM THE USE OF ROUND UP TO KILL ARUNDO DONAX?

This is a very scary video that suggests we need to think twice
before taking in our using Round Up, a suggested way to eradicate Arundo Donax.

OUR LAND IS ORGANICALLY GROWN

Our land has always been organically grown, however, recent fires in San Dieog have brought our canyon, the home of native species and wildlife to the attention of the Fire Prevention Bureau.

There is a great staff person named Sylvia who has responded positively to the ongoing Overgrowth Cleanup that we are doing. She is giving us an extension of time to handle our massive Overgrowth.

I want to participate with neighbors in the canyon management for the good of all.

This stand of Arundo Donax is especially of interest to me.

Even in an time when many parks are leaning toward less and less use of herbicides, the Arundo Donax is still managed with Round Up.

I have written more about this already.

our neighbors as well as come up with the a good approach for handling an enormous stand of Arundo Donax, a reed-like cane that is commonly used in Mexico and other third world countries for making baskets, thatched roofs, and musical instruments. I am sure there are many other uses of for this plant that grows very fast.

ARUNDO AS A BIOFUEL SOURCE

I just ran across a Biomass grant from one agency that is offering more than 350,000,000 in awards.

Arundo Donax is a likely candidate for a Biofuel resource. My preliminary research indicates that their is already one company in Georgia that has in mind to grow Arundo Donax as a crop as a Biofule Resource.

I want to upload photos of our Overgrowth to the People's Garden Site; our
canyon land is however in private ownership, but I see our property in particular becoming a park given to the City at some point for future generations to enjoy.

We are located within walking distance of San Diego State University, a population of 35,000 on the cutting edge of Sustainability thoughts.

I believe there is more to gain for the good and welfare of our city as well as our canyon to encourage the research I would like to inspire.

Parks currently spend $6,000 per acre I read to get rid of Arundo Donax.

From my Enchanted Gardener's Point of View, I have been entering into a communication with the spirit of the our stand of Arundo Donax. It is curious to me that on the day I first spoke to Sylvia and she suggested cutting out the entire crop and then using Round Up to destroy the extensive root system, the earthquake hit in Washington, D.C.

That event pointed out to me out much reeducation is needed to get back in organic step with the beat of nature. This property has already helped many people over the years who for their well being need nature contact. This is a pressing issue for our time.

I completely understand the need to manage our overgrowth; however, there needs to be a thorough understanding of what our neighbors and future generations will lose if we do not see that we must take time regarding this priceless canyonland within walking distance of SDSU.

I have praise for our city fathers and mothers on the council who within the last six months voted all in favor of more community gardens for our city; and I want to make sure that they consider the issues here.

Gratefully, we are out of fire season, and again from my point of view, we are not in danger of fire. Years ago, there was a fire here, due to unconscious behavior of someone who left a candle burning outdoors. We learned. There have been no incidence in the last ten years.

Looking back on that fire, the Arundo all burned, but flames do not touch our house. We were protected from harm. in was another plant, lumber bamboo, that acted as a fire break. This is the same lumber bamboo that grows at the San Diego zoo and feeds the Panda's.

My good neighbors are already exploring bids for managing the canyon. There are considering all options, including following the current directives of the Fire Prevention Bureau. They are also exploring the use of goats to remediate the situation.

We have already staryted to research natural methods of Arundo Donax Removal, including strong dilutions of vinegar and laying down carpets to smoother the roots.

There is also another solution: Many hands make light work. I have in mind to invite further opportunity for neighbors to use our Canyon Overgrowth as a time to come together and begin to build strong bonds.

We are living in times when no one fully grasps what nature is saying. Our problems from Washington to our very city of San Diego can be traced with being out of step with the economy of nature.

Here is an opportunity to begin our re-education.

We want to prove that it is a best use for our canyon to be an wildlife
and education organic center, including a community People's Garden
on Arosa Street (with the permission of the owner of the land). We want to demonstrate that we have already shown that Arundo Donax, thought to be an invasive special that could not be mulched, was mulched saving our city
landfill space. We are suggesting that there can be a balance between our jungle like ovegrowth and the concerns for Fire Prevention.

We want to demonstrate how a community of neighbors who did not talk before this opportunity came to plan out the best possible future for our shared canyon land.
