THE ROOTS OF OUR FOOD EMERGENCY

The alarming fact is that foods –
fruits, vegetables and grains –
now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer
contains enough of certain needed nutrients, are starving us --
no matter how much we eat of them.

"Our food system is rapidly losing its ability to produce food with nutrient levels ad- equate to maintain the health of our families. There is no guarantee that the food produced and harvested meets nutritional standards needed to maintain good health. To change this threat to the health of our families and the families of the world an effective strategy to increase the nutritional values of our food and restore the minerals and organic material in our depleted our soils is needed."

shape and color. None of the current USDA standards
address nutritional values. Organic industry standards
address production methods that reduce toxicity
and avoid the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Neither the USDA nor the organic industry standards

We need an honest and authentic Dialogue on Science,
Ethics, and Food.
I planted seeds with Dr. Robert Fraley, father of Round Up Ready,
when I met him at the AAAS in Feb 2011. This is not the time
to berate or villify anyone, this is the time to allow for honest
research that is separate from corporate policy regarding seeds
that may likely be misguided.
We need to get help Monsanto Corps come home to Saint Louis
as a company deserving of public support. We need to have a future
including Monsanto that involves each of us being an Organic Uprising!
Standing up for Nature's Original Technology is the message for this moment
in time post March 11.
I stand with the intent of Sec of Ag Tom Vilsack when he began
the People's Garden Project in 2009.
The People's Garden Project needs to stand behind Organic
sustainable practices 100 %. Co-existence with conventional and GE
production has not been tested.
The evidence appearing on the table, even on the desk of Sec of Ag
Vilsack indicates we need to Chew on Food Safety: A National Conversation
is needed. Slow down.
We cannot afford to deregulate GE Seeds of any kind.
The economy and health of the US and the world cannot afford this.
Please, if GE seeds work and can benefit humanity, prove it
truthfully.
The White House now needs to get fully in the farm bed of its own
White House Garden that was intended to be organically grown.
Slow down.
Get in sync with the beat of nature.
Encourage every child to and grown up to grow a bit of our own food.

Description: Organic Uprising! is an introduction to our current food emergency and how, through starting to grow some of our own food, even one beet, and perhaps, alfalfa in pots, we begin to regain our beat with nature.
Leslie Goldman, Presenter: Leslie Goldman, known as Your Enchanted Gardener, is a full time blogger who advocates for Real Food Safety. His work is called Plant Your Dream and he would like to inspire more people to become Beet Keepers. His current concern is the deregulation of genetically engineered alfalfa and other crops. Currently, he is speaking up for alfalfa through learning to grow it. Leslie lives with others in the Enchanted Garden, a third-acre near SDSU that aims to sustain a natural environment. He uses inspired poetry, photos, and videos to get his message across.

I claim now we are One Organic Movement, Organic Uprising!
We are one movement, from grassroots to beet tops.
I See and Seed that our President, who we elected on a platform
of Hope and doing Good for all of us,
is standing with us now in the name of Food Justice.
I See and Seed now that we live in a world of friends,
that industry and international corporations
will stand with all of us now turning our beat around with nature.
Let it be known we have reached a Tipping Point,
and that for the sake of our beloved earth,
we are turning away from technology that harms any of us.
We have gone as far as we can go with “Take One”
on planet Earth. We have reached a time
for a “Take Two” for Planet Earth.
The world has been galvanized by events of March 11,
when earth quake hit Japan. On that same day,
key organic Industry leaders
shared an inspired message at the #expowest,
the Natural Product Expo West.
They were looking at the Political Challenge of GMO’s.
On April 9-10, 2011, Organic leaders through gifts
of natural products, made a statement in
City Heights that truly we are one movement.
We claim this moment as one we owe our children.
We claim this as a time for action from grassroots
to Organic Industry Leadership–in union–
being the Tipping Point.
I see and seed government leadership
that supports Food Justice and Real Food Safety
and is sympathetic to our movement.
Leadership and all industry are called now to be
the Tipping Point through dreams we plant now,
so Plant Your Dream.
I see the People’s Garden Project and the USDA
and our friend Sec of Ag Tom Vilsack supporting
our People’s Project Gardens in CIty Heights.
I see City Heights exemplifying the new trend
of people gardening in our backyards
and in highly supported
community gardens.
I see more and more plants, rising through each of us
Standing Up for Nature’s Original Technology,
each of us an Organic Uprising!
I see and seed organic alfalfa growing everywhere
and People’s Garden standing up for this.
LIVING AS A NATURAL DISASTER
WAITING TO HAPPEN
If we had merely suffered an earthquake on March 11
that would have been disaster enough, but as a lifestyle,
we have been living as an earthquake waiting to happen. I
t is time to Shift.

A little more than a year ago, I stood with Dr. Robert Fraley,
the creator of Round Up Ready for Monsanto.
We planted seeds to close the gap
and ease the tension between GMO and Non GMO lovers.
It is through an open and honest Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food
that our world will be saved, but more than this,
it will be saved by more of us turning
our own beat around with nature
and creating strong local community.
To stand in community,
we each need a moment of awakening that comes
when we grow a bit of our own food.
Even growing one beet in a pot surrounded by alfalfa seeds is a start.
Less words are needed now.
Radiation released into our oceans off Japan.
We lived in a climate coming from the White House itself that imagined
Genetically Modified Organisms might be good for our economy.
That is our past.
I see and seed a new vision for our new earth.
It is in each other’s dreams that we are asked to invest.
It is time to return to the Bank of Compost.
GMO is not the wave of our future because
we have a future together
on this earth.
The earth already has a perfect technology
for growing dreams and feeding dreams whole, pure,
and natural food.
Nuclear power can no longer be the wave of our future
as long as nature is capable of sending a Tsunami our way.
Nature’s Original Technology is best suited for this earth.
Let us close the gap now in understanding.
Let us, all of us, from our President, to our beloved First Lady
follow her directive, “Let’s Move!”
Our Movement now has a direction,

THESE ARE OUR AIMS
1-To support mobilization of one Farmers’ Market in our local area, the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market in San Diego. To continue to work with local organic farmers and help them sell more of their produce.
2-To continue to develop a 1/3 acre parcel of land near San Diego State College named the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community Growing Grounds where those who live here and who live around the world may study our process of learning how to keep the beat with nature through learning to live together cooperatively as a household that seeks to live in harmony with the earth. The motto of the house will be Keep The Beet. Through growing a simple beet in a pot, we can regain our beat with nature. Not all in the house garden. Some like to prepare food. Others help with other jobs, or rent. The land, as of January 2010 is being refinanced. A Trust to hold the land is being explored. The Seed Dream would be to leave a museum and park for future generations to learn from this experiment in cooperative living that has been going on since the early 1970′s. The intent is that what we learn here can help others, and Washington, understand and adapt to some of the shifts being asked of all of us now.
3- To develop relationships with those who influence Washington and government. A vast coalition across all political, religious, and philosophical lines has now formed. Mainstream media needs to be reached through bloggers filling the gap where journalism once told all points of view. Elected leaders need to be encouraged to follow the principles expressed in the song “America The Beautiful.”
4- We see the world as we know it now coming to an end. A Shift has already happened. It is for each of us to adapt to the earth and relearn the laws of nature, rather than attempt to further adapt nature to our ways. The source of our economic and health crisis is that we have lost our beat with nature. We can regain the beet through becoming once again a nation of gardeners who live in a world of gardeners. One Pot+One person=You are a Gardener. Start to grow your own food now.
