April 15, 2010, a couple years later,
Michelle Obama Came to the City Heights,
a city that was singled out to receive 10 million dollars
because of improvements it had already shown that
have the California Endowment a sense that their money
would be well spend investing here.
She visited the New Roots IRC Community Garden to launch her
Let's Move!" Project, a national initiative that includes
an support for exercise, nutrition and gardening.
So where are we now? At the
Fourth Annual Cultivating Food Justice Conference,
we get a readout of where one of the nation's top
sustainability cities lies. The Schedule can be viewed
here.
The context, on a national level, and on a local level,
is that we are in a Food Emergency as well as there are
signs of good progress we want to acknowledge
that are Cultivating Food Justice.
The 2011 Cultivating Food Justice Event, April 9-10, 2011,
gives us a look at what one city is saying,
but where are we nationally?
What are some of the issues we face as a nation?
What are we up against?
How do we further create now a sustainability movement
that includes Cultivating Food Justice for all?
Who are the Non Profits on a national level that are
working to end this Food Emergency?
Who are some of the local Groups in San Diego
to watch, that are a barometer of the Shift toward
Cultivating Food Justice?
These are the topics I will touch on in my presentations
at the 2011 Cultivating Food Justice Event.
In a five minute talk at the Speak Out 9 am-10 am, April 9, 2011
as part of a plenary of many voices being heard, I will inspire
further our movement, and guide those who come to
express themselves.

April 15, 2010, a few days before the 2010 Cultivating Food Justice
Event at SDSU, Michelle Obama, our First Lady, came to the New Roots Community Farm to launch her national campaign called “Let’s Move!” She said that all eyes of the nation were on this plot of land.
One year later, we return to City Heights for our 2011 Cultivating Food Justice Event. We begin with a Speak Out on Cultivating Food Justice. What Messages does Washington and City Government here in San Diego need to know about Cultivating Food Justice? What messages do we need to Speak Out among ourselves as we seek to create a local sustainable movement? Michelle Obama said “Let’s Move!” I say that the movement can be called an Organic Uprising! By Organically grown, I mean a lifestyle in sync with the beat of nature. Standing Up for Nature’s Original Technology seems a profound priority now,

the California Endowment that is here
to give 10 million to uplift.

A gang-visited piece of land trashed
became a New Roots Community Farm
in less than three years, setting a tone for a whole city
wanting community gardens.
City Heights:
It is the place where First Lady Michelle Obama came
and said, "All eyes are looking on this plot of land"
when she knew it was time to say "Let's Move!"
Eyes again return to City Heights April 9-10, 2011
as volunteers freely giving, give view to impossibilities
becoming possible:
People can get along.
Police Stations do have Gymnasiums inside.
Streets do have gardens in between trash pieces
that no one saw saw to pick up,
but for two days will pick up.
Flowers do bloom,
medicinal herbs do grow.
People, even, with two many beers under the belt,
do say hello, and you say hello back.

MAKING MISTAKES ARE NECESSARY
FOR GROWTH
We forget that this planet goes hand in hand with the development
of the human Soul. It is through mistakes that most of us
learn the errors of our ways. That is why now, we have to turn
away from Nuclear Power and Genetically Engineered seeds,
we simply cannot afford the cost of the harvest of our mistakes.
Some say there is nothing new under the sun. Now is the time for
something new under the sun, a new kind of power that comes up
from Grass Roots, from beet Roots Growing,
from organic alfalfa in pots growing.
People of the street are called now to touch base with
[organic industry leaders] with industry leaders,
and our elected officers who are called to come
to an understanding of Real Food Safety.
The buy out of elected officials needs to end.
Here is the truth:
Big is fragile. Too big breaks.
Little can be solid, it can bend
as grass. Ag is intended to be a multi-cultural happening.
It is not chemically fertilzed at its best,
it does not prosper from Science in the hands of real estate
like agents patenting genes.
RIght now, to Survive This Day,
we need no less than 10,000 new microfarmers,
and a million more gardeners.
This would be Victory. This would inspire
authentic economic recovery and
home land earth based security.
Chernobyl,
Nakasaki,
Three Mile Island,
the repeating heartbreaks of New Orleans
the Fukushima Nuclear Accident,
the deregulation of Genetically Engineered corn in Iowa,
the non-labeling of GMO foods in our supermarkets,
the proliferation of farmers committing suicide
in India, and wisdom filled gardeners in Kenya
wanting to hold on to something unplastic,
all these ask that we have
a moment of awakening, that we turn our beat
around with nature. and see we are one beet, many pulses.
Look at us.
We are living as earthquakes waiting to happen
that call for the same solution:
Come home to Nature's Original Technology.
Nuclear Power and GMO's,
these things we call Genetically Modified Organisms,
they come from the same place.
They are errors in judgement,
Unless we turn our beat around,
we will never get where it is possible to go:
1000 years from now.
The heart falls.
Grief overtakes us.
We become despondent
and cannot engage one more time,
yet we cannot give less now
than what we have left.
Life is a Rock Your Soul Opera.
Suddenly, more and more people
are realizing we simple need a Take Two for Planet Earth.
The outcome is in our hands.
The Bank of Compost is calling us out.
The time for a Great Earth Clean Up is past tense.
We have messed up, and we are called to fess up.
In spite of the mistake of Japan that disheartens
and frightens us,
the mistakes of our President who gave us hope
and is now taking away the healthy future for our food
in the name of generating business
while in his own White House he eats pesticide free,
we simply have to toss off our
grief and discouragement,
and engage once again.
We need to plant a new seed now and a seed dream.
This means all of us who care for life coming together
as one movement.
I call this movement an Organic Uprising!
Standing Up for Nature's Original Technology.
Life on this planet has always been,
and will always be an Organic Uprising!

ONE PERSON
YOU ARE A GARDENER
Now is the time that we Take Back our planet,
each of us, personally
turning our beat around.
Plant a Seed. Grow a Whole New World.
Life has always started this way.
Uprising begins with seed and new seed dreams
we grow ourselves in our own "backyard," even
if the soil we care for is no more than
that that contained in one pot,
or bowl filled with tiny seeds or
a repotted beet root.
TO GARDEN
To garden is more than about soil
we are meant to dig;
to garden is a metaphor; to garden is
to connect with our roots.
To be organically grown is
and to recognize that the earth and the soul and soilmates.
To get here is a process. I find it began for me
when I first planted food.
For you, it could begin with growing a
beet in a pot, sprinkling in some organic alfalfa
seeds, or planting seeds in the ground of your
organic choice.
RETURNING TO AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
All of us now--those in [the Natural Product] Industry, those
who whose fist touches hoe,
who know now food justice nor
that our food is in an emergency state,

Most dramatically, Huber reported on what he described as a newly discovered pathogen. While the pathogen is not new to the environment, Huber said, it is new to science. This pathogen apparently increases in soil treated with glyphosate, he said, and is then taken up by plants, later transmitted to animals via their feed, and onward to human beings by the plants and meat they consume. The pathogen is extraordinarily small. It can be observed only via an electron microscope operating at 38,000 power of magnification. It has yet to be phenotyped or named, though that work is almost complete and will be announced in a matter of weeks.
Huber warned that ignoring these emerging realities may have dire consequences for agriculture such as rendering soils infertile, crops non-productive, and plants less nutritious. It could also, and apparently already is, he said, compromising the health and well-being of animals and humans.

Our American companies had removed these harmful ingredients from their products overseas -- but not here!
Kraft, Coca Cola and Wal-Mart are living proof that it is possible for giant corporations to make and sell kid-friendly, family-friendly, and healthy processed food without necessarily exposing them to a chemical cocktail that might also give them allergic reactions, brain tumors, or leukemia, or the symptoms of ADHD, as the Center for Science in the Public Interest recently highlighted in their report Rainbow of Risks.
No need to go through all the numbers for increased health problems here. You've heard them all and it isn't pretty. For goodness sake, no more research necessary. Lets stop poisoning our own kids. Lets start assuming chemicals are dangerous until proven safe, not the other way around.
Is it too much to ask the FDA and the processed food companies for the same value to be placed on the lives of the American kids in their cost-benefit analyses that has been placed on the lives of kids in the UK?
