AN UPRISING OF ORGANIC ALFALFA
In recent weeks, I have been growing organic alfalfa
out of a compelling need to do something meaningful
in the face of the Deregulation of Genetically Engineered Alfalfa.
The USDA has given GE Biotechnology
free reign. This will contaminate organic alfalfa.
If this proceeds, and it is the will of the White House,
Alfalfa, called in ancient times, the father of foods,
will no longer be as intended, a legume that stands
at a foundation place in agriculture.
alfalfa is pollenated by bees, who will carry the
genes everywhere.
I am looking to the internet for a people's uprising of unified support
for organic alfalfa. Other foods are also being
given the go ahead to make them Genetically Engineered.
People around the world are rising up now in defense of
freedom. Do we imagine that our seeds,
that play such a dominant role in the fulfillment of our dreams,
are asking any less of us?
A moment of awakening is vitally needed now.
We are being called back to get our heart beat
in sync now with the beat of nature.
We can do this through simple actions,
as simple as growing a bit of our own food in a pot.
We are being called back now to
know the local farmers and producers
growing the rest of our foods.

MY THOUGHTS
WRITTEN FEBRUARY 19, 2011
I have had a restful hour
one of the most peaceful moments
I have had in a long time.
The outgrowth of this moment of peace
is that I want to go out into the garden
one more time with my camera.
I would like to see again through my lens
how my upraising of organic alfalfa is growing
in a pot.
I would like to see how the stands of lumber bamboo,
water logged, uprooted and fallen have had their way
with the growing cane,
pushing in down toward the garden growth.
I wonder what I would take from here,
this place where I have lived for decades
if I had to walk away with only what I could carry?
I would take my uprising of organic alfalfa
growing in a pot with a beet I call
Keep The Beet that reminds me
to keep the beat with nature.
I would take my book
"Rekindling of Faith,"
and maybe some other books I have written.
Perhaps a new generation of youth
will come to express their will with this land
that is still so wild and desires to continue to grow
here.
If the youth come, or those with youth in them, I would stay,
but I would also continue to let go
of so many things that have grown up around me,
ideas that I would like to give away
or see continue to grow life.
I have been a seed planter here.
I am at my best when I am alive in other worlds
and somehow encourage others who welcome the invite
to Plant Your Dream.
We are in a moment of food emergency.
I cannot believe that technology of man
will win over nature's original technology.
I believe that something as precious as
natural growth will have its way.
The power of an organic alfalfa seed to
instigate an uprising is very great.

THESE ARE OUR AIMS
1-To support mobilization of one Farmers’ Market in our local area, the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market in San Diego. To continue to work with local organic farmers and help them sell more of their produce.
2-To continue to develop a 1/3 acre parcel of land near San Diego State College named the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community Growing Grounds where those who live here and who live around the world may study our process of learning how to keep the beat with nature through learning to live together cooperatively as a household that seeks to live in harmony with the earth. The motto of the house will be Keep The Beet. Through growing a simple beet in a pot, we can regain our beat with nature. Not all in the house garden. Some like to prepare food. Others help with other jobs, or rent. The land, as of January 2010 is being refinanced. A Trust to hold the land is being explored. The Seed Dream would be to leave a museum and park for future generations to learn from this experiment in cooperative living that has been going on since the early 1970′s. The intent is that what we learn here can help others, and Washington, understand and adapt to some of the shifts being asked of all of us now.
3- To develop relationships with those who influence Washington and government. A vast coalition across all political, religious, and philosophical lines has now formed. Mainstream media needs to be reached through bloggers filling the gap where journalism once told all points of view. Elected leaders need to be encouraged to follow the principles expressed in the song “America The Beautiful.”
4- We see the world as we know it now coming to an end. A Shift has already happened. It is for each of us to adapt to the earth and relearn the laws of nature, rather than attempt to further adapt nature to our ways. The source of our economic and health crisis is that we have lost our beat with nature. We can regain the beet through becoming once again a nation of gardeners who live in a world of gardeners. One Pot+One person=You are a Gardener. Start to grow your own food now.
