Who else is growing lettuce of this quality
in San Diego? I hope many other local organic farmers.
This is Real Food Safety from the ground up
in a moment in time when the White House
is unleasing GE genes without regulation.
A massive outpouring of social media is needed
now. Truly, we need a something revolutionary
to happen now if we are to protect our food supply
from contamination. Organic food is endangered
at the media is out of touch.
HERE IS AN OPED FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES
THAT TELLS PART OF THE STORY
"It’s unlikely that these products’ potential benefits
could possibly outweigh their potential for harm.
But even more unbelievable is that the F.D.A.and the U.S.D.A.
will not require any of these products, or foods containing them,
to be labeled as genetically engineered, because they don’t want to
“suggest or imply” that these foods are “different.”
(Labels with half-truths about health benefits appear
to be O.K., but that’s another story.)"

Alfalfa is the nation's 4th largest crop, planted on over 21 million acres. Forage and hay are primary feed crops for dairy cows and beef cattle as well as pork, lamb, and sheep. It's not just for livestock - hay is used as mulch and alfalfa meal as a beneficial soil amendment. Alfalfa sprouts constitute an important sector of the salad market and alfalfa also plays a major role in honey production. In addition, currently over 90% of all alfalfa hay planted in the U.S. does not use any herbicides at all. Roundup-Ready (GE) Alfalfa will introduce the toxic herbicide Roundup (Glyphosate) to these fields.

NEW PROJECTED SPONSORS
QUEEN BEES ART & CULTURAL CENTER
I see the Queen Bees as a new Beet Keeper, Return!
Enchanted Garden Club Sponsor. I had a delightful
interaction with members of the staff and the owner
of the property, Alan Hicks. Alma Rodriguez is the
manager of the Queen Bees. Meeting her daughter,
and friends Josie Sanchez, and Destiny, who work
the Queen Bees Cafe were one of the highlights of the
day for me.
The Queen Bees is a great place to hold events.
There is an eclectic mix of people who use the building.
A lot of bridging between various cultures takes makes here
through the medium of dance, music, and poetry, as
well as performance art.
I want to salute Alan Hicks, Alma Rodriquez, and staff
for an outstanding job supporting the needs of
the emerging Drumbeat Community.
I join with our main organizers, Art Neil and Mera
of New Media Rights, members of the emerging
Drumbeat Community in thanking the Queen Bees
Art and Cultural Center.
MIHO GASTROTRUCK
Keep The Beet is very impressed with this mobile
Farm to Street enterpize. I ate one of the grass fed burgers,
fries, and homemade catsup. Went back for seconds.
Delightful staff and excellent service. Everyone at
Drumbeat loved this. The first 60 got a free plate for lunch
that was served on BioSmart Sustainable Packaging.
Thanks to Hani for hooking this up!!!!

Goyo Rodriguez of JR Organics shows off the fresh and tasty locally grown organic lettuce picked the day before at the Escondido based fifth generation farm that has more than ten farmers' markets in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles County. The thriving CSA has helped, but many more shoppers are needed for this therapeutic quality food. Organic food is under assault with new deregulation of GE alfalfa that opens a pandora's box to
Biotech driving out organic food. We are all called forth now to take a stand with our dollar and voice to Washington.

I am still sleeping after a long day.
I just got Leslie up out of bed to write these notes
before he goes back to bed.
He has the Hillcrest Farmers' Market later in the day,
9 am-2 pm. You can find Leslie around 11 at the Rodriguez
stall across from the music. He also supports the other

Leslie regularly received massage at the end of each market
from Morea Garcia. He highly recommends the services of
Morea and Mariah Guillot, who can be found on the east
side of the DMV building.

CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE WASHINGTON
ON REAL FOOD SAFETY
VIDEOS ON THE NEW PLANT YOUR DREAM WEBSITE http://plantyourdream.net
THESE ARE OUR AIMS
1-To support mobilization of one Farmers’ Market in our local area, the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market in San Diego. To continue to work with local organic farmers and help them sell more of their produce.
2-To continue to develop a 1/3 acre parcel of land near San Diego State College named the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community Growing Grounds where those who live here and who live around the world may study our process of learning how to keep the beat with nature through learning to live together cooperatively as a household that seeks to live in harmony with the earth. The motto of the house will be Keep The Beet. Through growing a simple beet in a pot, we can regain our beat with nature. Not all in the house garden. Some like to prepare food. Others help with other jobs, or rent. The land, as of January 2010 is being refinanced. A Trust to hold the land is being explored. The Seed Dream would be to leave a museum and park for future generations to learn from this experiment in cooperative living that has been going on since the early 1970′s. The intent is that what we learn here can help others, and Washington, understand and adapt to some of the shifts being asked of all of us now.
3- To develop relationships with those who influence Washington and government. A vast coalition across all political, religious, and philosophical lines has now formed. Mainstream media needs to be reached through bloggers filling the gap where journalism once told all points of view. Elected leaders need to be encouraged to follow the principles expressed in the song “America The Beautiful.”
4- We see the world as we know it now coming to an end. A Shift has already happened. It is for each of us to adapt to the earth and relearn the laws of nature, rather than attempt to further adapt nature to our ways. The source of our economic and health crisis is that we have lost our beat with nature. We can regain the beet through becoming once again a nation of gardeners who live in a world of gardeners. One Pot+One person=You are a Gardener. Start to grow your own food now.
