The Vegetarian Guy, George Vutetakis
The Vegetarian Guy, George Vutetakis.
We spent time at La Milpa Organic Farm,
The Hillcrest Farmers Market, and here
at the the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community
last Sunday, July 18, 2010.
George had a restaurant in Detroit for twenty years.
He is a gift to San Diego.
His familiarity and love for local produce,
and connecting with local farmers
and the kitchen, make him a special
gift to our community of San Diego.
His book, "The Vegetarian Tradition"
has a great feel it it and lovely photos.
It is a book many people will enjoy.
I recommend you visit his blog,
The Vegetarian Guy.

Vegetarian Traditions:
Favorite Recipes From My Years
At The Legendary Inn Season Cafe

George Vutetakis
calls himself the vegetarian guy.
That is the name of his blog site.
I spend delightful moments getting to know George
last weekend. We met at La Milpa Organica
farm last Saturday at the monthly potluck,
and did some video. Then, we visited
various farmers at the Hillcrest Farmers Market
the next day, July 18. George already knew numbers of the
Beet Keeper Beet Growers and my allies
who are vendors at the Hillcrest Farmers' Market.

This is George Vutetakis with Barry Logan
of La Milpa Organica Farm at the Hillcrest Farmers' Market
July 18, 2010. If you get to the market early enough on
a Sunday, one of the treats you may find at Barry's stall
is Vanilla Beans of Ayurvedic quality that come from
a friend of George's. They are grown in India.
I met George at the third Saturday of the month
potluck at La Milpa Organic Farm. The event
begins around 5 and last until after dark with a film.
Barry Logan goes the extra distance in the care and
love of his soil. He was one of the keynote speakers
at the recent 2010 Food Justice Conference at
San Diego State April 23-24, 2010.

VEGETARIAN TRADITIONS
HEADED FOR FLORIDA
Linnea Elkind, a wonderful poet knew instantly
she wanted a copy of Vegetarian Traditions when
she first saw the book July 18, at the Hillcrest Farmers' Market.
Linnea was visited town with husband Ken Elkind.
They hail from Florida. This photo was a touch of fun.
George drove up in this sportscar. I asked Linnea
to get in the driver's seat for this photo opp.
Following our visit at the Hillcrest Farmer's Market,
I had a meeting set with Ken Elkind and his lovely wife
Linnea. We scheduled some time to meet with Natan Mallinger
of Third Eye Interactive to exploring building a web site for
Ken. I introduced George to Ken and Linnea, visitors from
Florida. Linnea was instantly drawn to George's wonderful book.
She bought a copy.
I was in fun mode.
I asked Linnea to sit in George's sports car, and
I took some photos.
Later George came over to the Enchanted Garden Intentional
Community Growing Grounds. Angelene was home and had a visitor.
Her brother Ed. George got a tour from Angelene and showed
Anna Varnell, his book. Both Angelene and Anna love to prepare
food. It was a lovely afternoon first meeting with a lot
of Seed Dreams floating through the gentle afternoon temperature.
All in all it was a day to visit with farmers we both knew
and introduce George to some of allies at the Hillcrest Farmer's Market.
I can see involving George in the Pacific Symposium 2010
at the Catamaran Hotel and Resort in early November 4-7.
George really knows his foods.
What a gift!!!!
GEORGE WILL GIVE A FOOD DEMO
AT THE HILLCREST FARMERS' MARKET
I made sure he knew David Larsen,
the Hillcrest Farmers' Market manager.
It was an easy lead in to having George be invited
to do a food demo at the Hillcrest Farmers' Market.
Wow!! That will be exciting....
This would be an opportunity to have various foods
of the Beet Keeper Beet Growers shown off.
George already knows Barry Logan of La Milpa Organica
Farm and Phil Noble of Sage Mountain Farm.
ORGANIC POTATO PANCAKES
ala George Vutetakis
Phil Noble is a great local
organic potato grower.
One of my fall projects is to
connect Phil Noble up with the
Jewish community. Potato pancakes
are a fun food of the Chanukah season.
This would be a time to educate.
I can see an article for the Jewish Journal.
VEGETARIAN TRADITIONS
WINS PRAISES IN ENCHANTED GARDEN KITCHEN
Anna Varnell, one of many food lovers
at the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community Kitchen
was raves for Vegetarian Traditions,
George Vutetakis's book, a favorite
of locally grown foods everywhere.
Anna is a lover of recipe books
and has been known to spend more than
12 hours on one of her specialty cakes.
In the Enchanted Garden Kitchen in San Diego,

ARTICLE FOR THE JEWISH JOURNAL
FOR FALL 2010
Most commercial potatoes today are
grown with high pesticides.
I can see a story featuring George's potato pancake
recipe, that mixes squash with potatoes.
This would be good for digestion.
Fried foods leave can be difficult on the liver.
I want to see Phil offer up a crop of potatoes
to the Jewish community.
This could be a win-win for all.
HERE IS A PHOTO OF LINNEA ELKIND
in GEORGE's SPORTS CAR.
That was fun!!!
Linnea, from Florida is married to
Ken Elkind. I got a call from Ken a few weeks ago.
He has a list of who's who a mile long in the health field.
He called me out of the blue
asking if I were the one who brought
mulberries to Dr. Bernard Jensen's
100 Birthday Celebration a couple years ago!
We spend time on the phone.
Ken is a master networking
and has a domain page set up called
Vital Health Innovations
http://www.vitalhealthinnovations.com/
Hopefully that will shift soon
through the meeting of Ken Elkind and
Natan Mallinger, of Third Eye Interactive,
a housemate now is will be helping me
quantum leap by main web sites into the
21st Century.
