Day 20?
there's got to be an answer as to why

Eating a lot of tofu for breakfast. I now wish to find something else.
Just got distracted by an email and it spoke of the spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I took time out to email my state Legislator who represents the county I live in. I asked what it is that I might do here in my home state to not only show support for fixing the problem, but also how to get our President off the road he seems to be walking down on this. 81 days I'm told.
Is it BP's job to get in there and get going? Is it the President's? Hmmm. I think, in this moment, that our President is the keeper of our country. Like a parent who looks out for their child. If someone was hurting my son, it was my job to get out there and do something. Not when it hurt bad enough, but the moment he told me. I didn't wait for other kids' parent to do the right thing as if it were their problem solely - my problem warding off threats to my son's health, happiness, safety and well-being. The states of the Gulf are threatened with their very lives in a very real way. Something needs to be done rather than our hearing it's day 81 of oil spilling into the Gulf.
I cannot help but wonder what is it behind the scenes in making his decisions that have influenced Obama thus far. It is too easy to say he's simply neglectful or deceitful. Really? Neglectful and deceitful? If that is the case, if that is what comes out of this - my heart will be once again broken.
I keep hoping that integrity and values for others is what leads us all. Is this something BP has been solely in charge of? Should they have been? No, 81 days is 80 days too long for this mishap to be reality. One day per mishap, damn it. Not lifetimes. Entire livelihoods. Even deeper - faith in our leaders. This is costing, yet again, millions of people in faith in good. We can not afford to live in a society where faith that the right thing will be done is for fools. We all make mistakes, but who is at our sides to turn us around? Obama is better than this. I will read more before I give my heart away to shallow conclusions, worries, fears, anger, or judgments. I will read more.
I'll grab protein on Tuesday - I have enough tofu to get me through until then.
I will write my Congressmen tonight.
