We sit together wondering when spring will arrive in our chilly , damp town . Once the home of proud native Americans
now a small town with a University that cannot pay it's football teams bills, mediocre art, way too many alcoholics
and white liberals who gather at the cafes in praise of themselves,
The town has already forgotten the innocent H.S girls who were mowed down by a Montana driver armed with a cell phone and alcohol. Missoula, Montana is a small Montana city that has not yet grown up. But, likes to think of itself as "The Last Great place". Is it the last at place to be injected with the toxins of a culture that has put greed before compassion in a
deviant way?
Interstate 90 makes its way through a land that once was filled with Bison, deer and elk. Now they are only seen tragically laying lifeless on the side of the Interstate.
An afterthought to the many travelers who see Montana for it's snowcapped Mountains and big sky. Equating that to to beauty without seeing the inner decay of a dying land and once proud civilizations who were herded onto reservations
The White populace sit around the cafes, colleges, filled with stories of how their families were friends to the native Americans. How they had no part in the detention and slaughter of people who just stood in the way of what the white man called progress or manifest destiny.
But scholars write books and give lectures about times they never lived, in a culture they never stepped foot, and languages they can never hear, as spoken by the Blackfoot and other tribes.
So now Interstate 90 makes it's way through small Montana towns littered by the steel remains of decaying Mobile homes and automobile graveyards. In Clinton, Montana wildlife now sit caged or are imprisoned by fences. many lay listless and some uncared for. Like the native American, The land and wildlife have also been polluted by unwelcome culture of the white man.
