Happy Birthday, William Aura!

Wow!!! Getting out of Egypt is not going exactly as I planned,
but perfect this year.

The metaphors of the Passover-Easter season are just too
great to be celebrated by just Jewish or Christian people.
They all work together for me!

That is why I love the Essene work.

In the Good Olden Days, I would do a Jewish Renewal Seder,
then an Orthodox Seder--the strict Matzah eating kind,
then go to Easter Dinner with my former Christian, Jewish loving,
Pagan sweetheart!

I love celebrating God in as many ways as possible.

That is why for those times when I eat meat, I like to support
my friend Hani, of Middle Eastern Foods on El Cajon Blvd.
He is his own butcher. His lambs are grass fed. He finishes them
off with barley that promotes muscle rather than fat. He is a source
of locally produced pasture fed meat.

I definitely a vegetarian at heart. There is no question that I ethically
lean toward loving animals. Hani's butcher shop, in the back of
his store is no piece of cake for me to enter. This is not the "Food Inc"
kind of butcher store. These are not factory animals. Not only this,
but you see every organ including at times the lamb testicles. Ugh!!!

Dr. Bernard Jensen was into the organ meats. On Tuesday's and Fridays,
if I want, I can get raw liver here from his very own herd. If I am in the
mood for blood, I can eat the liver raw. He also has kidney and heart
at times.

This is not to say, I do not have to squint. I am definitely a peaceful
person. There are times when I imagine that human body parts
are in this buther trays.

There are times I wish I lived my life lower on the food chain,
and did not have to depend on animals as food. I admire Gabriel
Cousens, a fellow Essene teacher for the depth of his incredible work.
I admire his balance and the power of the Shaktipot that runs through him.
He, as I, admire and participate in numbers of traditions. He is a member
of the Sun Dancers, as a number of far out Jewish Renewal Folks, such
as R. Gershon Winkler in the old days. Likely, that was how Gabriel hooked
up, so to speak, with the Sundancers, that pierce the skin when they do
some of their all night long activities dedicated to The Great Spirit.

Lower on the Food Chain? Most of us today are in starvation mode.
That is part of Dr. Bernard Jensen's work. You cannot get away with
eating the kind of stuff we do every day an imagine we are feeding
our Temples. Truly, we are starving in the midst of Plenty. We can
grow anything here on Earth that can sustain our wholeness, but
most of us are living so fast that we are dependent on animals in the field
to chew their cud, eat grass, and hang out.

Of course, I am describing the idyllic life of a cow, not the Joel Salatin-
Michael Pollen kind. Today, meat is a commercial industry. You just
have to watch Robert Kemmer's "Food Inc," my choice for best documentary film of the year 2010. (I admit, I have not seen "The Cove"...yet).

Talk about poisoning of our food supply!!! Oh my God! Raj Patel,
the keynote speaker at our upcoming 2010 Cultivating Food Justice
Conference is correct...the cost of one of those Crowning Around Burgers
is around $200.00 when you add in the cost of oil and all the subsidies
that the Farm Bill provides.

Back to my point...what was my point? Oh now I remember.

On Monday, I got sick from eating too much ice cream at the unbelievably
great seder I had up at the Hidden Valley Spa and Retreat.

It is important that my wellness friends and Natural food Foodie Exec Friends
check out the wonderful Hidden Valley Spa and Retreat that Fiona an Stephen
Markowitz have been manicuring for around 3 to 4 years now.

They are a wonderful couple and wonderful parents of three delightful
offspring who are some of my favorite kids, now becoming adults. Rebecca
is still a bonefide kid. We were reading from Sanger's book "No Eat Not Food!" on the couch. I admired that Fiona reads to Rebecca. My mom
never did read to me. Fiona asked if I wanted to sit next to her so I did.

We read about three pages of the book. Rebecca wanted to do other kid
things.

There were about 20 or more of us.

I ate too many of the organic oranges and had three bowls of ice cream
on top of some lovely peaches dipped in sweet wine. Boy did I get a headache that would not quit the next day.

I did avoid the matzah, a non-food that I consider definitely the
food of affliction. This Tuesday, I will likely be back from the desert
and do the Third Annual Don't Eat the Matzah Seder. Tuesday is the last night of Pesach. It is the night that the Messiah is said to show up.

In any case, check out Hidden Valley Spa and Retreat for a wonderful
get away. It is a great place to renew your vows and get married again.

Let me know. I will be glad to help you tie the knot again, or break
a glass, a Jewish Tradition. Whatever works.

Hip! Hip! Hooray! Out of Egypt!
